End of the Year Update from the Friends
of Tobin
Thank you for your continued support this school year! Before beginning your summer, please check out our new website (which includes the attached year in review) and consider making an end of year donation to the Friends of Tobin. Have
a great summer!
Loving Day
Loving Day celebrates 51 years since the Supreme Court case of Loving v. Virginia legalized interracial marriage. Students from the Tobin school read the official resolution declaring June 12 “Loving Day” in Cambridge!
3D Biome Project
The children in room 279 invited their families in last week to show them the 3D Biome's (a major ecological community type such as a tropical rain forest, grassland or desert) that they made. Melody told us she studied Paraquay as her country for her Biome. Arshia explained about the wetlands, mountains and tropical forest in her Biome and Lena study South America for hers.
Thank You Friends of Tobin!
Thank you Friends of Tobin for a perfect day on Saturday!
We all enjoyed the bouncy house.... face painting by Jenny and of course the BBQ was delicious.
Thank you all for working so tirelessly in helping to make the Tobin Montessori School and amazing place to be!
Lower Elementary Teachers Attend a Sabbatical at the Museum of Science
Earlier this month, all five Lower Elementary teachers along with Erin Gutierrez, Montessori Resource Teacher and Emily Speck, District Science Coach attended a five-day sabbatical at the MoS in order to answer a key question: How can we address the new Grade 3 Science, Technology, and Engineering Standards in our multi-grade classrooms?
Our group worked with the MoS Educator Resource Center to develop an implementation plan for engaging Grade 3 students in the science curriculum. This included how to integrate Montessori and District resources to engage students in achieving the district and Montessori goals.
Teachers each also launched into an investigation on a topic of their choice relating to the curriculum. Through these individual investigations, teachers were able to embody the science and engineering practices themselves, including data analysis, arguing from evidence, and making claims about phenomena and/or design choices.
It was an amazing opportunity of learning and professional growth for all!
Volunteers Needed
Can you help us out on Tuesday, June 19th at 8AM?
We need help putting together the Summer Reading and
Math Take Home Packets.
These packets are sent home with each student on the
last day of school. They help keep the learning going all summer long!
We will have everything all set up and ready to go.
It should only take a couple of hours!
Please let me know if you are able to help us out.
CPS Website User Family Survey
CPS is starting a rebranding project this summer and needs your help! The CPS district and school websites will be redesigned and we need your feedback.
We want to make sure the websites meet your expectations and more. By filling out the following short survey, we will be able to understand the experience families have when visiting CPS websites and how it can be improved. We also will examine communication efforts collectively at CPS. Thank you in advance for your participation. Take the Survey >>
Got Feedback?
We can't wait to hear from you! CPS is conducting our first annual Family Survey, and we hope to hear from you by June 14th!
If you haven't already received an email or text message, or it's gotten lost in your inbox, check out our Family Survey page and click on your family's school(s). You can also find questions & answers about the survey, view our outreach plan, and even make comments on ways to improve our outreach strategy.
For those who don't have a good way to take it from home, watch for survey-taking stations at events at school. We value your feedback and hope to learn and improve based on what we hear from you.
The survey is part of our continuous improvement efforts, a key component of our CPS District Plan.
