Greetings from Julie Craven

Dear RAUC Families,

The final week of school is here! We started the year asking you to name your hopes and dreams for your student. We hope you have seen evidence that they were attained!

Teachers have wrapped up the year with reflections in classes as well as community celebrations. 6th grade had a ball at Kimball Farms together last Friday (even the teachers, as you can see from the photo!); the previous week 7th graders enjoyed Canobie Lake and 8th graders had adventures in Washington DC. This week, 8th graders graduate on Tuesday at 1pm, and we have our first ever Fun Day on Thursday afternoon, the final full day of classes before early release day on Friday’s last day of school.

6th Grade Computer Science
Playground RAUC-ed!

Students had a great time participating in our first ever Computer Science Playground event on Tuesday! If any students or families are curious about how to continue exploring computer science at home or learning more about the event, they can check out this website.

Pride Content Winners
We also sponsored an LGBTQ+ Pride art contest. We received eleven beautiful entries, all of which are on display in school. Our winners were Mia Burbridge (1st), Amaya Giannini (2nd), and Emma Randall-Jarrard (3rd).

Welcome Letters and School Supplies
for Next Year!

Teachers are looking forward to welcoming their new students in the fall. Families will receive notification in August when new schedules will be available in Aspen. In the meantime, grade level teams have written letters introducing themselves and listing supplies students should come prepared with.

Summer Math and Reading
Students are all asked to read five books this summer, and they have packets to support that reading. Additionally, math summer work packets will be distributed to students. You will also be able to find these on our website!

Notes from Information Forum on New 7th Grade Math Program
Thank you to those who were able to attend the meeting. For those who could not, you can find the link to the slide presentation located here or on our website. If you scroll to the end, you will see examples that illustrate the ways that the new curriculum are designed to engage students in more mathematical thinking. Please know that the district math department is planning on an informational night for families from all upper schools in the fall, so there will be other opportunities to explore this new math program. Teachers are excited about the change and believe it will result in more rigorous math learning for all.

Social Studies Budgeting Program
7th grade Social Studies hosted representatives from the City of Cambridge Participatory Budgeting program on June 7. They helped students brainstorm projects that would help our community, and write brief proposals. Our students' ideas will go on to the next phase of the Participatory Budgeting process, and might be some of the projects Cambridge residents will vote on in December! For more on Participatory Budgeting, including how you can submit your ideas, go here.

Boston Pride ParadeBoston Pride Parade
Our new GSA (Genders & Sexualities Alliance) marched in the Boston Pride Parade on June 9 with a group of students and teachers from the other Upper School GSAs. We had a wonderful day of cheers and high-fives, celebrating everyone's right to be who they are!

Website User Survey

CPS Website User Family Survey
CPS is starting a rebranding project this summer and needs your help! The CPS district and school websites will be redesigned and we need your feedback.

We want to make sure the websites meet your expectations and more. By filling out the following short survey, we will be able to understand the experience families have when visiting CPS websites and how it can be improved. We also will examine communication efforts collectively at CPS. Thank you in advance for your participation. Take the Survey >>

Health and Wellness Tip
Did you know? Students who are more assertive are less likely to get into a conflict with their peers. Students can practice being assertive by using a clear, calm voice and being direct with their message. Reach out to Ms. Boadu or Mr. McNulty if you have any questions about a tip or concerns about your student’s social emotional well-being.
