Music Corner

Kindergarten has started learning the music of Carnival of the Animals by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. So far, we have studied The Royal March of the Lion, Hens and Roosters, Tortoises, Wild Donkeys, Elephants, and Kangaroos. We do movements with each piece and then color a picture of the animal and its associated instrument. Ask your child what his or her favorite animal is so far!

Division begins with understanding about equal groups and the relationship between multiplication and division. That is: 42 ÷ 6 is asking "How many groups of 6 fit into 42?" Or 42 = 6 x ?. Here are the strategies students use to divide a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number (grade 4):
