Cultural Night

Cultural Night
Dear Friends,

International Night, renamed Multicultural Night, is coming soon (Wednesday, November 7) and we're looking forward to putting together another year of fantastic Activity Tables. Last year was absolutely amazing. So many Tobin parents and teachers commented positively on the number of volunteers manning Activity Tables and how moving it was to see such diverse cultures proudly shared.

Would you like to be part of this event? If so, please contact [email protected].

Nature's Classroom
Nature's Classroom - Student Reflections
Each year, out 4th and 5th graders go on an annual trip to Nature's Classroom. Read some reflections from the day >>

STEAM Lab
S.T.E.A.M Lab
Some of our 4th and 5th grade decided not to go on the Nature's Classroom trip but that doesn't mean they didn't have adventures of their own! They went to the Lesley S.T.E.A.M lab and made model boats with solar panels (inspired by reading about boat schools in Bangladesh. The students sketched with Miss Yuliya and went to Fresh Pond for Nature Sketching. And then it was off to the Museum of Science with Miss Stephanie. They all had a great time!

Cultural Day
Cultural Day
On October 24, 2018, Tobin Montessori is inviting all students to share stories about their family & culture! This is an in school celebration for students only. Families can help their child prepare for this day by working with them on this packet.

Playscape
Children's Playscape at Fresh Pond
Room 283 field trip to Children's Playscape was a big success! If you are not sure what Children's Playscape is, please ask any of the Room 283 students, and they will tell you about it. Children's Playscape is located at Fresh Pond Reservation. The word playscape combines two words, play and landscape. There are logs to balance on and build with, tree stumps to jump on or sit and rest. This is what you do at Children's Playscape: you play with your friends and have fun!

We would like to thank all the chaperones who joined us for a field trip: Lisa, Bernadette's mother, Shane, Lochlan's father, Kerry, Narain’s mother, Karen, Josiah’s mother, Hewan, Christian’s mother, Vera, Beatrix's mother, and Schuyler, Boden's father.

Family Potluck
Family Potluck
The Welcome Families Potluck Breakfast in Room 283 was a celebration of friendship and cultural connections. Everybody tasted delicious food, made new friends, and had fun! We would like to thank our room parents Lara, Hannon's Mom, Lisa, Bernadette's Mom, Kerry, Narain's Mom, and Shane, Lochlan's Dad, for organizing such a successful event.

Building competency and independence while maintaining family relationships. She will talk about making meaning of behavior, keeping relational lines open, dealing with our own worries while parenting, and what to do if sudden concerning changes occur. David G. Stewart, PhD., ABPP, Chief of Psychology Department of Psychiatry from Cambridge Health Alliance and Harvard Medical School will present on adolescent substance as well as emotional and behavioral problems in adolescents.

Lunch Week
National School Lunch Week
National School Lunch Week was October 15th – 19th! This is the first year Cambridge Public Schools participated, and we loved to show students there is ‘Lots 2 Love’ about school meals! 30 million students enjoy healthy lunches every school day in the U.S. We had lucky tray giveaways, cultural meals, and special guest servers that week. Students showed their love on Friday with a heart-colored or –themed shirt, and earned a fun sticker!
