Message from Manuel J. Fernandez
Hello CSUS Families,

The Academic Resource Center will start on Wednesday, November 14th. It will take place every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:05-4:15PM. This is the place for scholars to complete assignments with or without assistance, utilize computers and access tutorial support. Snack will be provided. All scholars are welcome and encouraged to attend. There will be a late bus available for all scholars that that qualify for bus transportation. The late bus will depart from CSUS at 4:30PM. All scholars must have written consent to attend.

Peer Mediation
Over the past few weeks, a group of 12 scholars participated in a 20 hour training to ensure they have the necessary skills to successfully mediate their peers in conflict. Mediation is an intervention between conflicting parties to promote reconciliation, settlement or compromise. Mediation is a way to bring people together to talk about a dispute and to help them find a way to solve their problem. On Wednesday, November 7th, these scholars will graduate from the training. They will then begin to mediate when conflict referrals are made to the Mediation Coordinator, Ms. Kronhaus. These scholars have shown a great deal of maturity, commitment and leadership. CSUS is lucky to have them!

Mix it up day

Mix It Up Day
On October 31st, CSUS scholars participated in Mix It Up Day. Upon entering the cafeteria for lunch, scholars were given a color coded strip that assigned them to a table. Each table had conversation starters that required all scholars to participate to the best of their ability. The purpose of this was to have scholars engage with others that they don’t normally sit with during lunch to increase community. Scholars willingly engaged in conversations and hopefully formed new friendships.

Time to Learn

Quality Learning and Professional Time
Studies conducted last year, and meetings with diverse stakeholders since, have raised concerns about the amount and quality of learning and professional time in Cambridge Public Schools. CPS is in the midst of a study and design process examining a range of options for improving learning and professional time, with an initial focus on elementary and Upper School schedules.

View the latest updates on this process on the CPS website, and save the dates for the following Public Forums:

December 5 | 6PM | Morse School
January 10 | 6PM | Kennedy-Longfellow School
January 12 | 10AM | Graham & Parks School

The Superintendent will develop a proposal that will be shared for stakeholder feedback in January. In addition to the public forums, school-based meetings are being scheduled for all schools. Any changes in school schedules will benefit from a full planning year in 2019-20 before implementation in 2020-2021.
