Kitchen Tour
Kitchen Tour with Chef Paul

Chef Paul gave Room 283 students a tour of the school kitchen. Chef Paul explained how his colleagues and he prepared healthy and delicious breakfast and lunch for students. The children decided that a large oven for pizza, a very big pot for pasta, and a huge freezer were their favorite kitchen equipment. Thank you Chef Paul for the wonderful tour!

Tony's Bread
Tony's Bread
Thank you to Tommaso’s parents Anna and Roberto for coming in on Wednesday to read the folktale "Tony‘s Bread" by Tomie dePaola and sharing your Italian culture. We learned new words such as torta (cake), pane (bread), and benvenuto (welcome) -- and were invited to taste panettone, a yummy Italian bread.

cultural night
Cultural Night
Last night we held our Annual Cultural Night and it was amazing! So many families came and enjoyed the exhibits that were set up in the gym. We all enjoyed the feast in the cafeteria and then we were treated to a slide show of all of the pictures that were taken on Cultural Day a couple of weeks ago. The evening came to a close with Mr. Reynolds conducting the students singing the "Peace" song.

Tobin Language Days
This year, Tobin is again celebrating the rich array of languages spoken by our families. On selected Fridays, speakers of various languages are invited to come to the school office to recite a translation of the Tobin pledge during the morning announcements. Below is the schedule so far. If there is a home language that you do not see listed here or you would like to sign up to come in for a particular language, please email [email protected]. Next Friday Nov 16th will be our first language day, featuring the Amharic language. Please email [email protected] if you would like to come read the school pledge in Amharic.

Time to Learn

Quality Learning and Professional Time
Studies conducted last year, and meetings with diverse stakeholders since, have raised concerns about the amount and quality of learning and professional time in Cambridge Public Schools. CPS is in the midst of a study and design process examining a range of options for improving learning and professional time, with an initial focus on elementary and Upper School schedules.

View the latest updates on this process on the CPS website, and save the dates for the following Public Forums:

December 5 | 6PM | Morse School
January 10 | 6PM | Kennedy-Longfellow School
January 12 | 10AM | Graham & Parks School

The Superintendent will develop a proposal that will be shared for stakeholder feedback in January. In addition to the public forums, school-based meetings are being scheduled for all schools. Any changes in school schedules will benefit from a full planning year in 2019-20 before implementation in 2020-2021.

Cambridge Bicycle Safety
Does your child bike to school? Do you bike with your child to school? Would you or your child like to get around by bike but feel it is not safe? Cambridge Bicycle Safety is an all-volunteer group of Cambridge residents who are asking for safer bike lanes and a complete network of protected lanes throughout Cambridge. Separated lanes in the last two years--Cambridge, Brattle and sections of Mass Ave--have been the result of people in the community organizing. But we need more voices. We are looking for stories of parents and their children who bike or would like to bike. If you have a story and want to learn more, email us.
