Early Humans
Early Humans Research
Over the last month and a half, Upper Elementary students conducted research on a variety of early human species and how they met one fundamental need. Students became anEarly Humans expert on the fundamental need and how the different early human species met that need. Working independently and in a small group, students created migration maps and a physical model or some other creative representation of what they have learned. On Thursday, students presented their writing and projects to families and community members. It was a full house and hopefully everyone walked away with some new knowledge!

Hour of Code
Hour of Code
The Tobin community is participating in an Hour of Code celebrating Computer Science Education Week. The purpose is to inspire students to take an interest in computer science and programming. Ms. Rosenberg, our technology teacher, has been working with all Tobin students this week teaching them a new language - computer code. Students here are learning how to code the bluebots to make them follow the path to the pink flowers.

Songwriting
The Songwriting Workshop
By Lucy Carter and Fiona Litman

On Monday morning, the students in Upper El went to the auditorium to create their very own song to perform at the winter concert, they had the pleasure of working with Mr. and Mrs. Papoulis. Mr. Papoulis composes music and Mrs. Papoulis teaches a children's choir in New York.

In the workshop Lower El put together the refrain:
“What is the sound of hope
What is the sound of love
With open hearts you can hear it
If we can join our hands
Then we will learn to see
The sound of hope is in our hearts”

Children's house wrote verse 1:
“There is something I hear
Calling to me
It's the echoes of grace
And of what could be
It is finding way into our hearts
Calling out to me”

Lastly Upper El wrote the verse 2 and the bridge:
Verse 2
“If you want to learn
The sound of love
Look in my eyes and you will see
I will lead you to hope
Here my voice calling to you"

Bridge
“If you listen you’ll hear it
Just look in my eyes
With open hearts you’ll feel it
Hope is everywhere"

This song was made by all of Tobin, and it’s about the importance of listening and hearing out what other people are saying.

Mark your calendar now for Friday, February 1st at 8AM when you will here this very special song performed for everyone!

IMPORTANT THINGS
TO REMEMBER
BY MR. ROGERS

“The gifts we treasure most over the years are often small and simple. In easy times and in tough times, what seems to matter most is the way we show those nearest us that we've been listening to their needs, to their joys, and to their challenges."
