Mr. Williams
Meet Ahkeen Williams, Our New
Physical Ed Teacher!
Where did you grow up and what brought you to Tobin?
I grew up in Syracuse, New York. It is very cold there and we get lots of snow. What brought me to Tobin is my passion for teaching exercise, and the importance of physical education to the youth.

Favorite time of year and why?
My favorite time of year is the fall. The reason for that is because of the foliage, and of course football.

Favorite teacher you had in school and why?
My favorite teacher I had in school was a man name, Mr. Rasheed. He heavily influenced me because he taught me not for a moment but a lifetime. I remain contact with him to this day.

Skiing in Aspen or sunning in the tropics?
Sunning in the tropics.

Favorite movie?
I would have to say the Lion King and Friday Night Lights.

Dark or milk chocolate?
Milk chocolate!

special guests
Special Guests in Room 284
Our ELL students, Nabeel Uddin and Mockles Chowdhury, were special guests in Room 284 this week. They demonstrated and taught the students how to make butter, following the steps in their “How To” books. After the demonstration, the students enjoyed eating their butter with bread, while listening to Nabeel and Mockles describe the story of the Thanksgiving. It was a delicious treat!

Caleb Schachter, a former student of room 284 visited our class with his mom and read to our children. Caleb’s mom Anna talked about Hanukkah. Children learned about Hebrew letters, their meanings. She showed how to light a Menorah. Children learned how to play dreidels and tasted latkes with applesauce.

Diana, Thord Martin's mom, talked about Nicaragua to the children. She explained the significance of each color in Nicaraguan flag. She talked about the animals, life of children and people in her country. She wore ethnic dress from her country and danced. Children learned many things about Nicaragua and its culture.

DO YOU SPEAK PORTUGUESE?
If so, Mr. Reynolds, our music teacher, could use your help! He would like to review the pronunciation of a song for our Winter Concert that is in Portuguese. If you can help, please email Mr. Reynolds at [email protected] or stop by the music room.
