Message from Manuel J. Fernandez

Dear CSUS Parents and Caregivers,

Diversity Dialogues
Last week’s Diversity Dialogue on How have Race and Culture Affected your Life was well attended with a diverse group of staff, caregivers and community members. It was an insightful evening for many as we learn much about one’s personal journey and how it is shaped by race and culture. Some of our alumni-caregivers joined us because they "needed a space to continue the conversation" they began when their children were at CSUS. It was a wonderful evening. We are pleased to announce that noted Newton Public Schools elementary educator, Michael Feldstein, will facilitate our Feb. 28 DD, “How to Talk to Children about Race."

Report Cards
Semester I grades closed on Jan 25. Report Cards will be uploaded to Aspen and sent home on Friday Feb. 8. If you do not have access to Aspen or do not receive a paper copy from your child on Feb. 8th, please contact your child’s grade level advisor or Ms. Robinson and we will make arrangements for you to obtain the report card.

Netpals

NetPal Visits

On Thursday, January 17th, the whole CSUS seventh grade went on field trips to meet their NetPals at local companies in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. NetPals is a six-month program planned collaboratively by science teacher Erika Riddington, Cambridge School Volunteers' NetPals Director Meg Ramsdell, and our school's corporate partners: the Broad Institute, Neon Therapeutics, Philips, IBM, and Novartis.

NetPalsThe program includes emails, company field trips, and school visits. Students got to see where their NetPals work in this first visit. Pictured, you can see some of our experiences at Philips, where the NetPals design health care diagnostics, systems, and robotics. The pictures show CSUS students running an ultrasound machine, modeling laparoscopic surgery, and testing robotic control of the CT-scan. The bluish photo is from the "NICU of the future". We look forward to more visits and emails with our NetPals to get a taste of what it's like to work in STEM. Ask your seventh grader about their NetPal.
