Morse Musical Concert JK - 4
Thank you to all who attended the Morse School Winter Concert on January 29! The Kindergarten students danced their hearts out to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and sang sweetly. They ended with a thank you to their families called "Love Is the Magic Word." Singing in French and Spanish as well as English, 1st and 2nd grade students performed folk songs from around the world. The Morse Morning Singers is looking forward to performing at the 1st Annual Cambridge Elementary School Choral Festival CRLS in May. They gave a taste of that performance singing Congolese Community Gathering Song and Ifca's Castle. The 3rd and 4th grade students completed the performance singing canons and dancing to "Taynara" by Brazilian contemporary composer, Hermeto Pascoal. The 4th grade students even showed off their emerging recorder skills with the famous "Hot Cross Buns" and the jazzy "Recorder Blues." Ms. Graeber and Mr. Mossberg are so proud of the students at the Morse School and would like to thank them for the focus and joy they showed on the stage on Tuesday.


Second Grade Research Family Histories 
2nd graders are working on researching countries their families come from so they can write a nonfiction book about the country they have chosen! Here are some progress pictures from class. We will be sharing our books at our World Book Fair on Thursday, February 14th at 8:30!

Lunch Time Chat & Chew

During lunchtime on Mondays and Tuesdays you can find several 4th and 5th grade students sitting with me in the Cafeteria. We are happily chatting about books while we eat our lunches. Some days we discuss a specific book from this year's Massachusetts Children's Book Award List; other days it is just an open discussion where students can talk about whatever they are reading. Mrs. Gallant (4th grade teacher) has also hosted/will host some Chat & Chews this year. As Kate DiCamillo has said, "Reading should not be presented to children as a chore, a duty. It should be offered as a gift". Together with the gift of reading, I believe the joy of discussing and sharing what you are reading is almost as fun as reading itself! Come to the library to tell me about what you are reading or to check out your next great adventurous read!

Fine Motor Groups in JK and Kindergarten

Students in JK and Kindergarten are fortunate to have a visit from our Occupational Therapists (Ms. Peggy and Ms. Samantha), one time per month. During our sessions, the Occupational Therapists lead activities to help strengthen fine motor skills. In January, we cut strips of paper with scissors, decorated our paper strips with markers, and used glue sticks to create a class paper chain. Ask your child what “thumbs up” means when cutting! The children called it our “Happy New Year” chain, sang a New Year’s song, and paraded around the classroom. We wish everyone a happy and healthy 2019!

American Red Cross
The Red Cross Winter Storm Safety website provides tips for children and adults on what to do before, during, and after a winter storm. The site includes information on how to prepare for a storm and how to stay safe if you need to go outside during a storm.
