Concert
The Winter Concert was Amazing
Last Week!

Thanks to Mr. Reynolds and Mr. Mooney for preparing their students for the concert. The auditorium was filled to capacity with happy families! A special thank you goes out to the Friends of Tobin who sponsored Jim and Sophia Papoulis who came to the school and helped the 5th graders compose a song called "The Sound of Hope" that was sung by all of the students. Thanks to all who came to enjoy the concert and to show your support for our students.

Jess and Olivia
Housewarming
As many of you know, Paraprofessional Jess Lounsbury and her daughter Olivia lost everything they own in a devastating fire on December 22nd. We know that many things will never be replaced, but thought it would be fun and uplifting to have an ONLINE housewarming party!

Everything that Jess and her daughter Oliver need to set up their kitchen (Olivia loves to bake) can be purchased online at Target! Simply go to the website, choose an item, and have it sent to the school!

We hope you can help us celebrate Jess and Olivia as they move into their new home!

The housewarming party will be held from now until
February 22nd.

Courageous Convos
Courageous Conversations
Thank you to Laura Mosman Smith and Damon Smith who came to the school last week and led a thought provoking session entitled "Courageous Conversations"
The session focused on how Race and Culture affected our lives and how we talk to our children about this subject. Another session is being planned for the Spring. Be on the lookout for the date and time.

Chinese New Years
Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year and South America Presentation
Cathy’s mom, Yiling visited our class and talked about Chinese New year. She read a book and showed the children a video of Dragon dance. All the children were excited to know their own zodiac signs based on of their birth date. Yling helped children made Chinese lanterns to take home.

This month we are learning about south America. Vicente’s mom, Cote presented slides about their country, Chile. Our children learned many interesting facts about Chile- significance of their flag, landscape, mountains, active volcanoes, population, currency, food, animals, economy, culture and life in Chile. His sister Laura also joined. They sang a lullaby and Vicente also sang a folk song to the class.

Game Night
The Friends of Tobin sponsored a Game Night last Friday night. The families came and enjoyed pizza and wholesome family fun playing board games in the cafeteria. Thank you FOT for planning another event that brings our community together!

Life Cycles
Lifecycles
Students in all Lower Elementary classes, grade three, are learning about lifecycles. As part of this work, they dissected a flower to learn about its parts.

Garden Update
Classes have been busy with garden lessons indoors and outdoors! K1/K2 classes have been learning about osmosis using colored water and celery stalks. The Tobin worm bin has been making its way around the school, with classes observing them up close. Other classes have been comparing deciduous vs coniferous branches to ask why some trees keep their leaves. Spring is around the corner! (if you walk really slowly).

Attention Dads!
The Center for Families is doing a Fatherhood Survey. The survey is helping them gather input from fathers across Cambridge to help guide programming that meets dads’ needs. A link to the online survey is available here
