Sign Up to Meet with Teachers
Our Spring Learning Partners Conferences are still a ways away, but with February vacation coming up, we wanted to be sure families had enough time to plan their schedules. Please use this link to sign up: https://cloud.ptcscheduler.com/rau/ . Please reach out to Taraneh Ahmadi (617.349.4060 x2040; [email protected]) or Linette Maloney (617.349.4060; [email protected]) if you do not have online access and need help signing up.

Conference dates are as follows:
  • 8th grade: Tuesday, March 5 (daytime);
    Wednesday, March 6 (evening)

  • 7th grade: Wednesday, March 6 (evening);
    Thursday, March 7 (daytime)

  • 6th grade: Wednesday, March 6 (evening);
    Thursday, March 14 (daytime)

  • Specials: Wednesday, March 6 (evening);
    Friday, March 8 (morning)
Reminder that you sign up for a 20 minutes slot, during which time you will rotate through each core teacher. We wish we could have more time, but with 100 students at each grade, we have to schedule shorter time slots to ensure everyone has a chance to meet with teachers.

Black History Month
Have you been to the Clement G. Morgan Park inClement Cambridgeport? The park is named in honor of Clement Garnett Morgan, an African American man born into slavery, who led a life of many firsts. A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, he became the first African American to obtain degrees from those schools. He was not only Harvard's first African-American class day speaker, he was also the first working-class student to receive the honor. He was the first African American elected to the Board of Aldermen in Cambridge. He was a founder of the Niagara Movement, a predecessor of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He is buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery.

We’d like to thank our amazing Guidance Counselor Ms. Boadu for putting together the beautiful and powerful Black History Month bulletin board that all see as they walk up the stairs.

RAUC Students at Model UN
This past Sunday our Model UN club attended the 2019 Intro to Crisis: Arctic Conference hosted by Tufts University. The conference was held at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and attended by 14 Middle Schools from Massachusetts. Our delegates portrayed everyone from heads of state to explorers of Siberia. The goal was to look at the problems facing the Arctic using the delegates imagination and problem solving skills!

High Five
Students mob Craft afterward for high fives.

6th Grade Author Field Trip a Success
On Wednesday, February 6, 6th graders took a field trip to the Cambridge Public Library for a presentation by author and artist Jerry Craft. Every student received a signed copy of his new graphic novel, New Kid, courtesy of the Porter Square Books Foundation. Students said they learned "that it takes a lot of practice to be a good writer," and that they "drew all night!" after being inspired by Craft's lesson in drawing cartoons. Many students liked the book so much they finished it by the end of recess. It's a fun read -- borrow your child's copy so you can discuss it!

Courageous Conversations- Second Meeting Tuesday, February 26
We hope to see you the Tuesday after February break for the second of five evening conversations to discuss race and racial equity and how they impact teaching, learning, and family experiences at school. This series is hosted by Rindge Avenue and open to families and staff of the RAUC, Peabody, and Baldwin communities. Please see attached flyer for more details. At this second session we will learn tools and models to build empathy and prepare for courageous conversations. Please RSVP to help get a headcount for food and childcare
or return the form below to the school office (RAUC, Peabody, or Baldwin).

Questions? Contact [email protected] or phone 617.771.5810. Facebook: RAUC Courageous Conversations. Dinner will be 5:30PM and conversations start at 6PM. We will meet in the library. You are welcome even if you could not make the first conversation.

RAUC Lost and Found
Our ‘Lost and Found’ closet at the RAUC office has filled up to capacity and before we donate them all, we would like to give students a chance to come by and look through for anything they may have lost. They can come straight to the office and ask to take a look. Items will be donated at the end of February so please let your students know to come by.
