Youthful Energy

Youthful Energy
Mr. Jamal Fairbanks presented the third and fourth grade students singing songs including Thunder by Imagine Dragons and Can't Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake. The after school club, Baldwin Music Jam were accompanying percussionists. Then, the fifth grade instrumental group presented We Will Rock You. All were surprised by a flash mob by our first graders under the direction of Mr. Gladu, dancing the Cotton-Eyed Joe. It was an energetic musical afternoon.

Anna

Music of Remembrance

Fourth grade student Anna K. put on a long solo violin recital which she dedicated to raising money for the Jimmy Fund in honor of Angel. She had prepared a very ambitious program, two full concertos and a sonata and raised closed to $650. Some of her Baldwin School friends were there and shared in this experience. Thank you Anna for keeping your beautiful friend in your music and helping us all to continue to remember our beloved Angel.

Vernal

Anticipating the Vernal Equinox
Spring is around the corner! The spring equinox is March 20. Classes have been busy even with the March now. First graders created an experiment for testing how baby kale grows without specific inputs like sun, water, soil, or air. Second graders created planting maps for the spring and discussed the importance of dimensions and what they would like to grow. As soon as the soil thaws, students will begin planting outside.

Pictured Above: (Ms. Wong's 1st grade class experiment: baby kale growing with no light, no air, no water, and no soil.)

PI Day

Celebrating Pi Day
March 14 is known as Pi day. Pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. Ms. Logiudice's 4th grade class demonstrates making a circle with a diameter. By dividing the circumference by the diameter, you get close to 3.14.

Skiing

Baldwin School Ski Trip to Pat's Peak
Thank you Bob Neer! Our school community owes you a debt of gratitude for organizing the ski trip. This year's trip included 55 students and 65 adults, more than double the group that attended last year. Thank you to Friends of Baldwin for providing scholarships and subsidizing the cost of tickets and lessons. Families enjoyed a gorgeous day on the slopes, skiing and snow tubing. Students new to skiing loved the magic carpet! Thank you to Amanda, Andrea, Donna, Gail, Monique and Rafael for capturing the day's moments.

Ballroom

Mad Hot Cambridge Ballroom Dance Showcase
Our fifth grade students joined students from other Cambridge elementary schools for the annual Mad Hot Cambridge ballroom dance showcase. Led by our physical education teacher Mr. Sylvain Gladu, the students were well prepared and enthusiastic. Seeing the students' and parents' smiles makes this event one of the best. The kids showed off their dance steps including the merengue, waltz, swing, salsa, tango, and the bachata, switching partners throughout. Congratulations to Aidan and Violetta! They received the good citizen award for their positive attitude throughout the dance classes. Then, there was a dance-off and Vivian and Alondra were selected to represent the Baldwin. They moved with precision and energy. The crowd enjoyed the MIT ballroom dance team dancers. And, as tradition, all students hit the floor for the final dance, Cotton Eyed Joe line dance.

STEM Fest

First Annual Baldwin STEM Day!
Thursday, March 14 is known as Pi Day. The Baldwin School celebrated Science Technology Engineering and Math! The buzz of collaboration, experimentation, discovery, and excited observation filled the building.

Thank you to parents Josh Finkelstein, Beth Taylor, Chris Lim, Audrey Day-Williams, and all our amazing parent volunteers who made the day remarkable. Huge thanks to Friends of Baldwin for making it all possible. Ms. Heidi was the master scheduler who designed an extraordinary day. She worked with Josh and team to plan every activity and every presentation, making sure that every detail was taken care of.

We Want to Hear from You!
CPS is pleased to launch our 2019 Family Survey. The purpose of this survey is to learn about the experiences of families in our schools and district. It is important to us that all families feel welcomed, and that all students receive the best possible education.

As a district committed to equity, we use survey results to understand whether students and families from all backgrounds are having positive experiences in our schools. Your answers will be completely anonymous and can not be connected to you.

Nutrition MonthHappy National Nutrition Month!

Some classrooms decide to celebrate students' birthdays and other occasions. To create a healthier environment, the School Wellness Guidelines recommend celebrating in ways that do not include food. Some ideas include extra recess instead of a party, or a fun game inside the classroom if weather is bad. Find more ideas to celebrate here and ideas for non-food rewards here.
