Neuro-Animation Field Trip to Lesley
Ms. Rogers-Jensen and Ms. Robb’s co-taught and newly-offered Neuro-Animation class toured the Lesley Campus where they visited the animation lab and dissected a sheep’s brain. The students learned in class about the different parts and areas of the brain and what they control. At Lesley they were able to have a hands-on experience looking at the parts they learned about with a sheep's brain, which happens to be very similar to a human brain!

Neuro-Animation Update!
Students in Neuro-Animation also created a stop-motion animation project with 200 frames to create a video showing how neurotransmitters receive and communicate messages throughout the body. Students used clay to construct two neurons and the neurotransmitters, created backdrops for their film and shot their frames using an iPad and tripod.

Posters
Biology
Biology Posters
Ms. Robb’s Biology students studied environmental issues plaguing our planet during quarter three. They chose an area of interest and created infographic posters using scientific research. They included important statistics as well as colorful graphics to educate our community about these issues and promote ecological awareness. After completing their posters, students shared their research via a gallery walk with the community and answered questions.

Guest Speaker
Black History Month at HSEP:
Guest Speaker, Marvin Gilmore

Community activist, author and life-long Cambridge resident, Marvin Gilmore was invited to HSEP by guidance counselor, Danya Ferraro to speak at our celebration of Black History Month. Gilmore, a World War II veteran, Civil Rights activist and founder of the first African-American owned commercial bank in New England, Unity Bank and Trust, shared many stories from his extraordinary life.

ELA
ELA Poetry Dioramas
Mr. Goldman’s ELA students analyzed the poem "Traveling through the Dark" by William Stafford, annotating it using several close reading strategies. The students then wrote an analytical essay describing the different methods used by the poet to convey an experience through imagery, word choice, and various literary devices. Once the essays were completed, students were challenged to interpret the themes and language of the poem into a three dimensional model in groups. The students then presented their interpretations, citing textual evidence for their creative choices.

Book Swap
HSEP Book Swap
Students participated in a free book fair catered by the CRLS and Cambridge Public Library. Books, donated on behalf of the Bryn Mawr bookstore and local Libraries, were given to students as they browsed the diverse collections of fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels. While selecting books to take home, students enjoyed the opportunity to meet with their librarians over books and cookies, as well as talk with teachers about different authors and what they enjoy reading outside of the classroom.

Printmaking
Mixed Media Screen Printing
Ms. Roger- Jensen’s Mixed Media students learned concepts and characteristics associated with printmaking specifically collagraphy, including knowledge of vocabulary terms, elements and principles of design, materials, tools, and processes. Students made collagraphs in two styles, one non-objective (purely abstract) and one a realistic portrait of a person of interest to them.

Youth Employment

The Youth Employment Center, located in room 2101, is available each school day during all three lunches to assist young people who are hoping to access employment. The Center is staffed by employees of the City’s Office of Workforce Development and local non-profit Just A Start. Employees will work with any visitors to identify any currently recruiting employment programs that the teen should be referred to, and can also help any teen with their individual job search—helping to complete online applications, practicing interview questions, or developing a resume.

If you cant make it in during lunch, but still want some assistance, you can email Ken Bowers to schedule an appointment at a different time.

Orienteering

CRLS Spring Orienteering Team

The CRLS Spring Orienteering Team will be starting up again on March 18th. If you are interested in orienteering and/or competing at Junior National competition in Virginia, be sure to register for the team by March 11. If you have any questions, email coach Ethan Childs
