New Assistant Principal
Dear KO Community,
Waleska Landing-Rivera was selected to be the next Assistant Principal of the King Open School. Waleska is currently the Assistant Principal of the Fonseca Elementary School in Fall River and previously served as the Principal and Founder of the John F. Kennedy STEM Innovation/Elementary School and as Assistant Principal of the Sarah Greenwood School in Boston, where she also held positions as Director of Instruction, Reading Recovery teacher, and as a 1st grade and special education teacher. Waleska holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Puerto Rico and Master’s degree in Moderate Special Needs Education from Eastern Nazarene College.
Waleska will be joining our community soon. She is very excited and looks forward to working with the KO staff and families in the service of our students. We thank everyone who participated in this all-inclusive hiring process.

May 24th: Author/Illustrator Raúl the Third returns to King Open with his NEW book, ¡Vamos! Let’s Go to the Market. Raúl is also the illustrator of the Lowriders in Space graphic novels. Deadline for book orders through school is May 10. They are also available at all great booksellers!
May 24th: Character Day - stay tuned for information from your child’s teacher.
May 17th: 2nd Grade with host a family breakfast to showcase the work students have done researching a place in the world that is important to them and their family.

Family/Staff Packing Day: Can you help staff pack and clean for our move to the new building? King Open will be open on Saturday, June 8, 9AM-3PM for a Family/Staff Packing Day. Talk to your child’s teacher. Grown-ups only preferred.

Councillor Sumbul Siddiqui, Mayor Marc McGovern, and the Cambridge Employee Diversity Committee invite you to the 2nd Annual Cambridge Community Iftar in celebration of the month of Ramadan. The Iftar is the daily sunset meal to break the day’s fasting during Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and one observed as holy by those of Muslim faith worldwide. Ramadan began this year on May 5th and will end on the evening of June 4th, 2019.
