Lightning
The Lightning
The CGSL which stands for Cambridge Girls Softball League. There are 4 teams. The teams are the Lightning, the Ruby Reds, the Alley Cats, and the Tigers. The picture that you see is of the Lightning players that go to school here at Tobin. The people in the picture are Melody, Violet, Sarah, Ruth, and Leonora. The person that took the picture was Melody, Violet, Sarah, and Ruth’s teacher, Ms. Stacey. That game was against the Alley Cats. The Lightning won 8-4. Melody and Leonora are the 2 main catchers on the team. Melody is actually wearing the gear. Soleil is on the lightning team but she wasn’t at the game. Violet’s dad (John Little) is the coach of the Lightning team.

In Loving Memory of Sajni
Good Morning, Tobin Community,

Many of you know that we had a student, Sajni Chakrabarti, pass away due to a form of brain cancer known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Sajni passed away in July 2017 and will always be remembered as a kind, courageous student who fought until the very end. Our Buddy Bench on the recess yard is dedicated to her, as she was a role model and friend to all of us. Sajni has a sister, Anandi, in our school, and her parents, Prabal & Vanessa, continue to be an integral part of our Tobin Community.

Prabal and Vanessa are working with the Broad Institute (MIT) to organize a free event to raise awareness for research on DIPG in honor of Sajni. The reception is on Wednesday, June 5th, and there will be cocktails at 6:00PM, program at 6:30PM and reception at 7:00PM (see attached invite).

It would mean a lot to our Tobin Community if families are able to attend. Joey, Mary and I will be attending the event along with other staff members, and we hope to see you there!

If you can make it, don't forget to RSVP (email on the attachment).

Sincerely,
Jaime

2nd Annual Reader Prom
June 15 | 7:30PM | Dilboy VFW, Davis Square
The Porter Square Books Foundation, who brought George O’Connor and Jerry Craft to speak to the students of the Cambridge Schools this year, is hosting their 2nd Annual Reader Prom. All the proceeds will go to the Foundation and will help us bring more events and books to the students of Cambridge. Dress up in your finest prom fashion and bring a copy of your favorite book as your date to donate to a local nonprofit. (It’s the only prom where you’re supposed to dump your date right away!) There will be free snacks and soft drinks, a cash bar, music, dancing, “after-prom” style games and activities, and, of course, “chaperones.” You’ll also be able to get a formal prom picture with your “date” from and a bookish corsage.
