International Peace Day
On September 20th, Tobin Montessori celebrated International Peace Day. This is a day celebrated around the world to promote the idea of peace. Maria Montessori was a strong believer in peace – she felt that if we could teach the children about the world and different cultures than they would come to love and respect all people.
Each child in our school was asked to decorate a paper pennant with words and pictures that represented peace to them. They have been strung together and now hang in the entrance of our school.
Walking on the Line
Kindergarteners in Room 283 focused on "Walking on the Line", a traditional for the Children's House exercise. "Walking on the Line" was created by Maria Montessori as a natural way for children to control their movement, to perfect their sense of balance, and to develop self-discipline.
Initially, Kindergarteners had sketched various designs and discussed which ones would be fun and challenging for walking. Then, under Ms. Yuliya's gentle guidance, they worked in the Children's House area to assemble the lines. The next step was to practice walking, and everybody enjoyed walking along the colorful lines. You are welcome to come to the Children's House and practice Walking on the Line!
