STEM Club and Girls Who Code

STEMSTEM Club and Girls Who Code are clubs offered at Baldwin and are run by parents. STEM Club is run by a group of parents, headed by Josh Finkelstein. In a recent STEM Club session, students learned about harvesting water from air by capturing water using a fog catcher. They built their own fog catcher.

Thanks to parents Jonah Safar and Kieran Normoyle, Girls Who Code is full beyond capacity with many girls participating. This is one of over 10,000 clubs across the US. At the first meeting the girls learned about syntax and flowcharts, the basics of computer science.

Students learned about Margaret Hamilton, a computer scientist, who was one of the first computer software programmers. She created the term “software engineer”. She helped write the guidance software used on the Apollo missions to the moon. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her contribution to the Apollo 11’s successful landing.

Thank you to Tenable for sponsoring GWC at Baldwin. They will help provide books for the girls. Thank you to iRobot for their support. Thank you to Jonah for arranging such an exciting opportunity for our students.

Library News from Ms. Kugel

LibraryIt has been busy in the Baldwin Library the past two months! We are so lucky to have a student librarian, Marina Sweeney with us in the library a few days a week until the last week of November. Ms. Sweeney has been enjoying getting to know Baldwin kids on Monday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

On Monday, October 21, we welcomed author Megan McDonald to visit with students in grades one through five. It was a funny, exciting and RARE (Judy Moody word!) experience, and students are excitedly reading through the Judy Moody and Stink series books. Friends of Baldwin generously purchased signed books for students with financial challenges and Porter Square Books coordinated the visit and book sale. Read on >>

Meet the Kitchen Crew

Kitchen CrewWe have so much to be grateful for at Baldwin School and something that impacts us all is our school kitchen. Many of you know our Head of Kitchen, Laurie. Joining Laurie in the kitchen this year is Ann, Rebecca, and Sally. They take great care of our students preparing their meals with love. In addition to the kitchen crew, our cafeteria is supported by Marilyn and Bernette. Our kids are spoiled by their kindness.

Phenomenal Friends of Baldwin!

Election DayAnother Election Day food sale success. This year our families raised $1,900 for Friends of Baldwin to help provide field trip scholarships and in-school enrichments, a tremendous outcome considering it was a local election. This incredible effort was due to our remarkable community. Voters come to the polls knowing there will be delicious baked items and they especially look forward to the hot soups, chilis, and empanadas. Thank you to all the parents who provided baked items or a crock pot of deliciousness. Our building smelled amazing thanks to Audrey who raised the bar making homemade Belgian waffles. Read more >>

If your child was born between
He or she is eligible for:
September 1, 2015 – March 31, 2016
Junior Kindergarten – Applications for JK/K Lottery can be submitted at the school level for sibling families.
September 1, 2014 - August 31, 2015
