Greetings from Julie Craven

Dear RAUC Families,

As I do each year, I offer the following wishes as we head into the Thanksgiving break: May everyone have a safe and happy holiday. May we find joy in the company of family and friends. May membership in our diverse and beautiful RAUC community be a comfort to those for whom holidays can be difficult times.

Part of being a diverse community includes acknowledging that we do not all share the same experience. For many with Native American origin, the Thanksgiving story as traditionally told can be a painful reminder of historic and current injustices. What brings us together is the commonality of giving thanks, no matter our culture. In that spirit of universal thanksgiving, I am thankful to be in a community that aims for an inclusive, compassionate ideal and that is willing to reflect when we fall short so we can recommit to that ideal.

With gratitude,

Julie Craven, Head of School

Focus on Core Values

All the grades are working on reconnecting with our core values and the purpose of advisory, which is to create a welcoming space and sense of belonging at the start of the school day. In the weeks approaching Thanksgiving, many advisories have been focused on the core value of compassion. As you can see from this image of Compassion Bingo in a 6th grade advisory, that can happen in fun and creative ways. Ask your student what’s been going on in their advisory.

Compassion on Full Display in Our Thanks Giving Drive!

Students have been wonderful at bringing in donations to support the Y2Y homeless shelter in Harvard Square. And our 6th grade volunteers have been sorting and organizing the donations. For each item brought in, they have made a link in a paper chain, hung on the bulletin board at the top of the stairs. Check it out next time you are here!
