Turkey Trot Recap!

The Turkey Trot, that was held last Wednesday was a huge success thanks in part to your generosity and of course Mr. Gills (Phys. Ed teacher) for organizing the entire event outside. The students had so much fun running the track with their feathers in hand.

After all the outside activities were over, the students and staff gathered in the auditorium for an all school assembly. Mr. Joey and Miss Jaime organized the the assembly. They worked really hard on the slide show that highlighted some of the work that is done at the Broad Institute at MIT where we donated your contributions. We collected and donated more than $1,800.00 to the Institute where they are making great strides in cancer research. A representative from the Broad Institute as well as Sajni's Chakrabarti's family (who we made the donation in memory of) were with us to receive the check.

Thank you to all who made this donation possible and thank you for always being such a support for all the students and staff at the school.

Computer Science Ed

cs weekDecember 9-13th is Computer Science Education Week, but Tobin school will be taking the whole month of December to explore Computer Science in every classroom. Sarah Rosenberg, our Instructional Technology Specialist would like to invite parents to get involved. Any parent who has a background in CS and would like to teach a lesson, conduct a workshop or give a lecture, please email [email protected]. Parents (with or without CS experience) can also assist in classrooms where Sarah will be facilitating a variety of Computer Science activities.

Volunteers Needed!

The Weekend Backpack Program, which sends home healthy snacks/lunches to several of our students every Friday, needs help packing the items. The volunteers start packing each Friday at 7:50AM and are usually finished by 8:20AM. Can you spare 30 minutes a week? If you need more details, please let Mary ([email protected]) know. So many of our students benefit from this program, and we really need your help keeping it going!

Show & Tell Presentations Are Fun & Educational!

show and tell photosRoom 283 students always enjoy presenting their Show and Tell! There are many wonderful ideas that allow a child to share what is important to him or her with the entire class. For example, sharing vacation memories is one of the most popular Show and Tell ideas. We have seen family photos, shells collected on a beach, and rocks from a hiking trip.

Show and Tell ideas don't have to be complicated. A favorite book, a drawing, or a plant can make an interesting Show and Tell presentation. The goal is simply to choose something that interests the child and allows him or her to show and tell the classmates about it.

* Christian demonstrates a model of a train and teaches us about simple machines.
