Computer Science Education Week!

All King School students, from JK to 5th grade had the opportunity to learn about Computer Science this month. Younger students programmed human "robots" to make jelly sandwiches, 1st and 2nd grade students coded real robots, while older students learned block languages, and many created their own websites using HTML! Big thanks to the parents who volunteered: Piotr, Min, Daniel and Rebecca and of course to Ms. Varney and Ms. Rosenberg for all your enthusiasm and planning! Any questions, please email srosenberg@cpsd.

From the Garden

The cold and snow may have arrived, but fun in the garden has been continuing on! Classes have been helping with putting the garden to bed for the season. We've been composting old plants, saving seeds from dried flowers, and planting garlic and bulbs to bloom in the spring.

There is also plenty to explore under the snow! We've been finding ice crystals in the soil and observing sprouts of winter eye.

We've also been gearing up for winter projects such as building window gardens, conducting plant experiments, and making garden maps and plans. Looking forward to big things in 2020.

Who's Who at the King School?

cieraCiera Taufiq is a new member on the 3rd grade team. She came to King from Needham Public Schools where she was a Student Teacher, a Special Education Teacher and a Substitute Teacher for grades K-5.

Ms Taufiq thought that her future was in Psychology, but while at college in Canada, she volunteered to work with immigrant students and fell in love with teaching. She also has a sister who had many learning challenges as they were growing up and Ms Taufiq always wished that there was more that she could’ve done to help. Since coming to the King, she has been amazed by the warm welcome that she has received and by her wonderful students who do as much teaching as they do learning.

Ms Taufiq wants to make sure that her students are engaged and have a love of learning. She sees helping them create happy memories of their time in elementary school as part of her job.
