Ms. Jessica's Exciting News
Our librarian, Ms. Jessica was in Philadelphia this past weekend at the American Library Association meeting where she was an audience member at the 2020 Caldecott (best pictures), Newbery (best writing) and Geisel (best early reader) Awards are announced for 2019 published books. Next year she will be one of the people choosing which early reader will win the Geisel Award!
Ms. Jessica is one of 6 librarians across the country appointed to the 2021 Theodor Seuss Geisel Award Committee, which begins its work last weekend. She will be reviewing ALL the early readers that come out in 2020 and sharing her favorites with the committee members as well as Tobin readers. It has been quite an honor to be selected and she is very excited about it.

Movement & Music Specialist
Residency at Tobin
Next week, 2/3-2/7/20, the John M. Tobin Montessori School will host Laura Webster, a movement specialist from Cleveland, Ohio. Laura was Mr. Reynolds' movement instructor for all three levels of his Orff Shulwerk certification. Orff Shulwerk is a music methodology, similar to Kodály, that combines elements of music, movement, drama, and speech. She will work with the Tobin students, grades K-2, to create movement stories. They will combine created movement and composed music to share a traditional Native American folktale. We are very excited to welcome Laura to the Tobin! This partnership was generously funded by the Mass Cultural Council.

New School Community Meeting
The City of Cambridge invites you to a public meeting to discuss the Tobin Montessori and Vassal Lane Schools Project on Wednesday, February 12th, 6:30-8:30PM at the Tobin School Auditorium.
This will be the fifth community meeting to discuss the project. Previous meetings included geotechnical and environmental discussions, brainstorming sessions, presentation of conceptual design options, programming information and community feedback response. At this meeting, the City’s architect, Perkins-Eastman, and City officials will be:
responding to the comments received since the last community meeting on 1/16;
presenting a preferred option; answering questions and listening to feedback and comments in order to refine the preferred option and location.
Selecting a preferred option as the project moves into the “Schematic Design Phase”, allows the team to provide better-informed responses to questions about traffic, open space, cost, and handling of hazardous soils. This does not indicate this is the final design. Additional community meetings will be held during this process so that we can continue to receive feedback and refine the design. We encourage the community to continue to provide feedback as we go through the Schematic Design Phase. Please submit comments to [email protected] or [email protected].
Comments and responses received so far in the process can be found on the project page under the “Documents” tab.
We encourage you to attend as we value feedback from residents and the school community.
