Curious Creatures
Visiting Animal Program
In early February, all five Children’s House classes were visited by an educator and a variety of animals from Curious Creatures. Students heard fascinating facts and stories about each of the animals that were shown. There was even an opportunity to touch many of the animals!
Some of the animals in the collection included:
–Baby Alligators
–Lizards - bearded dragons, iguanas, skinks and geckos
–Snakes - pythons, boas, king snakes, corn snakes and milk snakes
–Mammals - hedgehogs, skunks, chinchillas, rabbits, ferrets and guinea pigs
–Turtles and Tortoises - range from baby turtles to large land tortoises
Students thoroughly enjoyed this exciting and educational program as you can see from the pictures!
This program was funded by the money originally collected for the field trip to Honey Pot Orchard which was cancelled due to the EEE risk.
The Book Fair is Back
Next week March 2-6 Tobin will hold its Annual Book Fair Fundraiser in the library on the 3rd floor. Sales will start after school on Mon. and end on Fri. after Movie Night.
We need volunteers!
Can you help us before or after school? We need people to work as cashiers, keep the racks organized, assist people in finding books and generally help out. Sign up here or email me [email protected].
We will have books for all ages and take most forms of payment. The library receives a portion of the proceeds to buy more books for the library to add to its collection. Thank you for your support.
News from Room 279!
To culminate our Native American studies, students in room 279 created a replica of something they learned. Each student chose a "Fundamental Need" to focus on.
UE Author Lunch Visit
When the UE Book Group read "Midsummer Mayhem" by Rajani LaRocca and LOVED it, we discovered that she is local, living in Concord MA, and offers to come for a lunchtime chat with students who read the book. At least half of the UE class chose to read "Midsummer Mayhem" over the next 3 weeks and Weds., 32 students had lunch with Rajani and got to ask her all their questions.

Note from Cambridge Health Alliance
As of February 24, the federal government began implementing the new public charge rule for green card and visa applications within the U.S. and at consular offices abroad.
The U.S. Supreme Court decided that the new policy can take effect nationwide while legal challenges move forward. Though the outcome is unknown, the federal courts could ultimately find the public charge rule invalid and strike it down in the future.
In the meantime, implementation of the rule will make it more difficult for low and moderate-income immigrants to get a visa or initial green card.
For some applicants, immigration officials look at whether a person is likely to use certain government aid in the future, including Medicaid (with exceptions), food stamps, and federal public housing. Most people who are reviewed under this regulation do not qualify for these benefits.
Many Massachusetts programs used by our patients are not counted in public charge including: Health Safety Net, MassHealth Limited, MassHealth for children under age 21 and for pregnant women, Health Connector, state-only MassHealth Family Assistance, Medicare, WIC nutrition benefits, school lunches, shelters, food banks, and many more.
News coverage will understandably generate questions and concerns within the CHA community. CHA and other organizations are resources to assist patients. CHA’s financial assistance team, primary care-based patient resource coordinators, care managers, and outpatient behavioral health case workers are available to assist patients with questions about their health care coverage.
CHA’s educational tool with area legal resources (attached) is posted on StaffNet and the CHA website - https://www.challiance.org/about/immigration-update. It will be available in multiple languages shortly. Please email with questions or if you would like training in your area - [email protected].
Thank you for all you do every day to care for all.
Sincerely,
Assaad Sayah, MD
