All month we will be partnering with Vassal Lane Upper School to collect new and gently used pajamas for children, ages newborn-twelve years old. The event is sponsored by the Vassal Lane Upper School in partnership with Cradles to Crayons and Project 351.

Book Fair Fun
Top photo: Tobin Book Fair Sparks Good Deed! Ben, Aayan, Andrew and Daniel L headed up to the Book Fair together today. While shopping for themselves they decided to pool their money to buy a book for Ms. Stacey's classroom book collection. The title they chose was "Roses and Radicals." The book is the story about the women's right to vote. Great job, boys!
Bottom photos: The Book Fair was held this week and was a great success thanks to Miss Jessica and her crew. Several parents signed up to help to make sure things ran smoothly...and they did. The Book Fair will be open this Friday evening during Movie Night.

100 Reasons
It was easy to come up with 100 reasons why we love Tobin Montessori!
Something Sweet
The children of room 206 tapped some trees at Fresh Pond last week. As part of our Study of American History, we are trying to do some of the works of the early people who lived here. Native Americans discovered sap by watching squirrels lick the sap from a broken Maple Tree branch (one of our students called it a Squirrel lollipop!). The early settlers learned this from the Natives and soon it became a way to sweeten their meals (sugar was a scarce commodity for a long time).
Ranger Jean from Fresh Pond helped us identify the right type and size of trees, we tapped the trees (with help from all the students), and hung our collection buckets. With the help of many parent volunteers, each morning a small group of children go over and collect the sap. Chef Paul is helping us keep it cold by using the Cafeteria refrigerators.
We are looking forward to boiling out the water and enjoying some pure maple syrup over some pancakes!
News from 216
Hi I'm Abby, a student in Mrs. Susan's upper elementary classroom. Every month each student, including me, has to do a book project. That consists of writing a summary about a book we have read and completing a project. The projects vary from a map, a letter from one character to another, a crossword puzzle, 5 important objects in their book, or even a board game! We can use any material that we want to like felt, cardboard or just paper. We can also use origami and paper mache just to list a few. Our summary has to have at least 3 paragraphs in length and not give away the climax or end of the book while also going into some detail about the characters and the start of the book.
We have one month to complete each project and at the end of the month we have to present our projects. Each person has a turn to present their project in front of the class. Then after we present we fill out a rubric reflecting how we did on the presentation and project. The highest score we can get is a 20. Ms. Susan also reflects on our work and gives us a score on the same rubix and then she hands it back to us with her feedback. We LOVE book projects!!

Happy National Nutrition Month!
Did you know that students who eat breakfast may see increases in their concentration and test scores? Students who regularly eat breakfast also have fewer behavioral issues in the classroom and fewer tardy days. Cambridge schools offer FREE complete breakfast (i.e., a hot meal, fruit and milk) to all students. Maybe it’s time your family gave it a try? Find school menus here >>
