Estimadas Familias
Ha sido otra semana muy ocupada para l@s estudiantes y profesores de Amigos! El personal y yo comenzamos nuestra semana, como lo hemos hecho desde que comenzó el aprendizaje a distancia, con nuestra reunión de personal. Pasamos un tiempito analizando los comentarios que recibimos de la mini-encuesta de compromiso familiar enviada a todos ustedes al principio de este período de cierre escolar. Algunas de las principales tendencias de esta encuesta son las siguientes:
- Las familias aprecian el trabajo de 1-1 y de pequeños grupos con l@s maestros y ven un impacto positivo en sus hij@s.
- A las familias les gustaría tener más enseñanza en vivo, especialmente para apoyar el desarrollo del idioma español.
Hay un interés en más visitas de l@s consejero@s a los diferentes
- niveles de grado.
- Las familias aprecian los horarios semanales publicados en nuestro sitio de aprendizaje remoto.
- Las familias aprecian la disminución de la comunicación diaria por correo electrónico que el sitio de aprendizaje remoto ha permitido.
Abrumadoramente, hubo evidencia de lo difícil que es este trabajo para todos nosotr@s. Es difícil trabajar desde casa y educar a nuestros propios hij@s al mismo tiempo. Es difícil ser un trabajador esencial y apoyar a nuestros hij@s que están en casa. Tod@s nosotr@s debemos compartir la comprensión de que esto es un desafío para las familias, l@s profesores y l@s estudiantes. Definitivamente es un momento para profundizar en nuestros valores compartidos de perseverancia, compasión e integridad.
La encuesta también compartió con nosotros algunos comentarios inconsistentes que son comprensibles ya que tod@s aportamos diferentes perspectivas a esta situación. Muchas familias informaron que hay demasiado trabajo asignado mientras que otros tantos pidieron que se asignara más trabajo. Algunas familias quieren más trabajo en línea, otras quieren menos trabajo en línea, algunas quieren un día de escuela más largo mientras que otras quieren un día más corto. Por favor, sepan que estamos haciendo todo lo posible para equilibrar los requisitos del distrito y del estado, el feedback de las familias y el bienestar social y emocional de tod@s.
La semana pasada también tuvimos una exitosa reunión del consejo escolar. Fue fantástico ver a tantos padres. También tuvimos la oportunidad de discutir el estado actual del cierre escolar y cómo podrían ser las cosas en septiembre. Pueden encontrar las minutas aquí.
Finalmente, para cualquier familia que deje las Escuelas Públicas de Cambridge y necesite devolver sus Chromebook y/o libros de la biblioteca, el Helpdesk de CPS está abierto los lunes y jueves de 11AM a 2PM en CRLS en el Carpentry Garage cerca de la esquina de Cambridge Street y Felton Street. Además, las familias que se alojan en las Escuelas Públicas de Cambridge pero que ya no necesitan sus Chromebooks y/o libros también pueden devolverlos al CPS Helpdesk. El Helpdesk está listo para recibir estos artículos de las familias de JK-8!

Dear Families
It has been another busy week for Amigos students and teachers! The staff and I started out our week, as we have been since remote learning began, with our all staff meeting. We spent some time reviewing the feedback we received from the mini family engagement survey sent to you all at the beginning of this school closure period. Some of the major trends from this survey are the following:
- Families appreciate the 1-1 and small group work with teachers and see a positive impact in their children.
- Families would like for more live teaching especially to support Spanish language development.
- There is an interest in more grade level check-ins from counselors.
- Families appreciate the weekly schedules posted on our remote learning site.
- Families appreciate the decrease in daily email communication that the remote learning site has afforded.
Overwhelmingly, there was evidence of how hard this work is for all of us. It is hard to work from home and school our own children at the same time. It is hard to be an essential worker and support our children who are home. An understanding that this is challenging for families, teachers and students must be shared by all of us. It is definitely a moment to dig into our Amigos shared values of perseverance, compassion, and integrity.
The survey also shared with us some inconsistent feedback which is understandable as we all bring different perspectives to this situation. Many families reported that there is too much work being assigned while just as many asked that more work be assigned. Some families want more online work, others want less online work, some want a longer school day while others would like a shorter day. Please know that we are doing our best to balance district and state requirements, family feedback and everyone’s social and emotional wellbeing.
Last week we also had a successful school council meeting. It was great to see so many parents. We also had a chance to discuss the current state of school closure and what things might look like in September. You can find the minutes here.
Finally, for any families who are leaving Cambridge Public Schools and need to return their Chromebook and/or CPS library books, the CPS Helpdesk is open Mondays and Thursdays from 11AM - 2PM at CRLS in the Carpentry Garage near the corner of Cambridge Street and Felton Street. In addition, families who are staying in Cambridge Public Schools but no longer need their Chromebook and/or library books may also return them to the CPS Helpdesk. The Helpdesk is ready to receive these items from JK-8 families!
