Staying Connected During the
School Closure

chromebookDeliveries of Chromebooks and hot spots for students in grades JK-2 have begun! Tech will be delivered to those families who have requested equipment. If you need a Chromebook or a hot spot, please email Marguerite with your child’s first name, last name, and their grade. If your address/contact info have recently changed, please include that in the email. Deliveries can be made to addresses outside of Cambridge. Stay tuned for more information from the Superintendent about distance learning and school supplies. In the meantime, check out the MLK distance learning page or through our main website

Starting next week on April 13th, Marguerite Hicks-Gyewu, the MLK Family Liaison, will have “office hours” on Monday mornings from 10AM-12PM. Emails will be answered in real time (within reason). Email Marguerite >>

Remember that Good Friday, April 10 and the week of April 20-24 will be vacation and staff will not be available.

Food Resources

Food for Free – the Cambridge organization that brings us the weekend backpack program and our monthly "Open Market” – will deliver groceries to your home free of charge. If you are experiencing financial hardship or are unable to get out and shop easily, call 617.349.9155.

Free bagged lunches and breakfasts for Cambridge children/youth are available on weekdays. Families who are facing food challenges are all welcome to pick up one bagged breakfast and lunch per child, regardless of free/reduced price lunch status. See pick-up locations & details >>

Cambridge Community Center in partnership with Central Square Business Improvement District has a Food & Supply Pantry. It's open Tuesday-Friday from 1-3PM (or until supplies run out) and is located at 5 Callender Street (gym entrance).

From the Garden

mr g videoAs we move into April with extended school closings City Sprouts is working hard to keep the spark of outdoor and nature learning alive! We are committing to releasing regular videos with at home garden activities for our students. I've kicked it off with videos on searching for signs of Spring and sprouting plants from groceries! Follow along on those YouTube links!

Sewing to Save Lives: Like all healthcare organizations, CHA is facing shortages of medical supplies. You can help us by sewing masks for providers who are caring for patients. Please use cotton, such as cotton sheets. Here is an easy pattern that CHA recommends with the combined dimensions and alternatives for elastic ties.

We are also looking for community donations of new and unused personal protective equipment (PPE): N95 Masks (usually made by 3M or KC Duckbill but we will accept any brand); Paper masks (with ties or elastic); Paper protective gowns; Protective glasses/goggles; Touchless digital thermometers. Items can be dropped off with Public Safety at the entrance of Cambridge, Everett and Somerville Hospitals 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
