Message from Manuel J. Fernandez
and Christen Sohn

Good evening CSUS caregivers and scholars,

As always, we hope you and your families are well and enjoying your weekend. Our letter this week is brief; please look for important communication from us regarding Listening Conferences early next week.

8th Grade Graduation
CSUS will be providing all scholars with graduation caps and tassels as well as t-shirts. The 8th grade teaching team needs information from your scholar to move forward with graduation preparations - please encourage your scholar to visit the 8th Grade Graduation Google Classroom to submit their t-shirt size and the most convenient/up to date mailing address so that we are able to get graduation materials to your child. They should also submit a baby picture/picture from when they were younger and a current picture for use in the graduation slideshow to Ms. Schwarz via email or the Remind app. Finally, CSUS will need your consent to share your scholar’s picture and, if they are speaking at graduation, a pre-taped audio or video of your scholar speaking. If you wish for your child’s picture to be featured at graduation, please complete this form as soon as possible. It can be signed and submitted digitally. Your child’s Student ID number is required to complete this form; if you need to locate a Student ID number follow these instructions.

If you contributed funds toward the eighth grade trip prior to the building closure but did not receive an email from CSUS about how to return your money to you, please email Assistant Principal Christen Sohn at [email protected]. If you have already completed the Google Form regarding return of trip funds, expect to hear from CSUS with an update (if you have not already) in the coming days.

We will continue to be in touch with updates surrounding graduation and the 8th grade transition.

Grade transitions and welcoming 5th graders
Our teachers and related service providers are connecting with their colleagues across grade levels to share information, and are planning ways to introduce themselves to new scholars prior to the start of school. We will be meeting virtually with 5th graders this week, and have tentative plans to hold orientations for all incoming grades during the last few weeks of August. CSUS is also hosting a virtual meeting for caregivers of rising 6th graders on June 10 from 7-8:30PM - see the link and meeting information below. Please encourage any families you know to attend!

We hope that this update has been helpful. If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions please do not hesitate to reach out to any staff member. We may not be in the building but we are as always here to serve you.

Stay safe everyone!

Peace,
Manuel and Christen

We need your help!

CSUS is going to partner up with Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) to send positive messages to patients with COVID 19. Your art sign can lift up the spirits of someone battling this terrible virus. All you need to do is:

  1. Make a get well art sign with words/art and include that it’s from you & Cambridge Street Upper School.
  2. Take a picture of your art sign.
  3. Post your art sign in the Art Google Classroom under the Lettering Assignment or email Ms. Silbert directly with your digital art.

Ms. Silbert will forward your art digitally to CHA where they will be printed out and distributed to patients in Cambridge with COVID 19. It’s such a difficult time for everyone, especially those fighting this virus. Let’s show our power and strength through this simple act of kindness!

Some examples of phrases you might like to use:

You can do this!
We’re all in this together. Be Strong!
Get well soon!
Feel better!
Wishing you well!
Here’s to you- steadier, stronger, and better every day!
Hope you feel better soon!
Here’s to a speedy recovery!

We can make someone's day a little brighter!
