snow day
Snowy Kids!

On Thursday, we had over a foot of snow, the first real snow in December. Like all the Tobin students, Room 283 children were excited to play outside. They got creative and built a snowman or a snow fort, made snow angels, or went sledding. Snow is fun!

csedweek 2020 photosWhat Makes a Computer a Computer?

This was the topic of discussion in Library classes this month. Tobin's Instructional Technology Specialist, Ms. Rosenberg visited LE and UE classes to celebrate Computer Science Education Week 2020 (December 6-12). Students had fun exploring the new CPS Computer Science Education website where they found two exciting new things this year: videos of our friends at MIT reading stories about coding and computer science, and a district-wide CS contest for students JK-12! Check them out.

We welcome you, JK-2 families, to enjoy the A.R.T.'s production of Jack and the Beanstalk: A Musical Adventure for free! This new, streaming musical will take you on an epic journey through Storyland with Jack, her cow Buttercup, her mother, the Grand Storyteller, King Giant, two Mice, the Itsy-Bitsy Spider, and the Fiddler Cat. The vivid imaginations of Harvard undergraduates Julia Riew and Ian Chan transform the classic fairy tale into a contemporary celebration of the power of kindness, courage, determination, and creativity to overcome life’s obstacles.

Using a Chromebook, laptop, tablet, or phone, we hope that you and your family will be able to enjoy Jack and the Beanstalk: A Musical Adventure together! There are all kinds of fun and free activities to accompany the show, including Beanstalk Yoga, A Cast Album, and a Jacktivity Pack for download!

Fight the Flu. Get Your Flu Shot!
Now more than ever, it is critically important to get a flu shot (also called seasonal flu vaccine). Flu season begins in the late fall and goes through winter, peaking between the months of December and February, but people can still get the flu as late as May.

Preventing the spread of flu will limit the need for flu-related medical appointments and hospitalizations, freeing up resources to help people with COVID-19. You can make an appointment for a flu shot with either your healthcare provider or local pharmacy.

Cambridge Health Alliance patients (12 - 22 years old) OR Cambridge Public Schools students (12 - 22 years old) can now receive a flu shot at the Teen Health Center located in Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. Call 617.665.1548 to schedule an appointment.

Note: It's mandatory for CPS students to receive flu shots by 12/31.
