White Families Working Toward
Anti-Racism
Please join us for a monthly affinity group for White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism. The affinity group for White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism is reading and learning from Me and White Supremacy by Layla Saad. The audiobook is always available through OverDrive at the Minuteman Library Network.
Our next session will take place on Wednesday, February 10th from 6:30-8PM. If you would like to attend, please complete this Google Form.
In preparation for the session all participating caregivers should read the Week 1 (pp. 31-74) in Me and White Supremacy.
There will be reading to complete before each session, and we strongly encourage families to make a commitment to attend as many sessions as possible. This group will meet virtually once each month on the following upcoming Wednesdays in 2021 from 6:30-8PM.
• February 10th
• March 3rd
• April 7th
• May 19th
We hope to see you soon!
Recycling Update
Happy New Year!
There are many ways to make the world a better place in the year ahead, and recycling is one of them!
Resolve to recycle all you can! It's a simple task that keeps precious resources out of the trash, saving natural resources and room in the landfill!
What can you recycle? Check out the Cambridge Recycling Flyer. Make it easy to recycle by placing a bag, box or bin for your recyclables next to the trash can.
Here are some tips about PAPER RECYCLING:
Unfortunately, not all paper can go in the recycling.
>> YES, RECYCLE: school papers, office papers, empty boxes, mail, magazines, newspapers, pizza boxes
>> NO, KEEP IT OUT: paper towels, tissues, napkins, paper plates, paper takeout containers
Paper is made from TREES so making paper from recycled paper saves TREES and the water and energy that it takes to make paper from trees. It also protects where many animals live.
Thank you! You are making a difference!
Please Join! Read Against Racism –
A Book Club for Parents/Guardians
You (and any parents or guardians you know) are invited to join our book club: Read Against Racism. Read Against Racism is intended as a safe space where local parents can embrace difficult conversations and share perspectives on race and equity in Camberville and surrounding areas. Our goal is to build understanding, support a community that values all people, and cultivate shared vision for an equitable future. We know caregivers are busy and many times don't read the entire book. Don't let that hold you back from joining in our discussions-finishing the books isn't required! We meet the first Saturday of every month at 7-9PM.
If you'd like to receive the virtual meeting links each month, please email us or join our Google Group. RAR is also on Facebook.

The 8th Annual Tobin Mock Caldecott has Begun!
Even though they can't provide of a box of the most interesting illustrated books for students to look through, evaluate, score and vote on (every year some of our students pick the official winner!), Ms. Gillis and Ms. Esty have worked hard to provide a virtual version of a Mock Caldecott. Please visit a new page added to the library website – Mock Caldecott 2021 – to see 22 recorded books to read and review as well as a scoring sheet to keep track of your results. All LE students will be working on this and we invite parents to help CH students participate as well. Click the "What is the Caldecott" button for more in depth information.
