Semester and Listening Conferences Updates

  • First semester ends this Friday, February 5.
  • Report cards will be live on Aspen on Friday, February 12.
  • Listening Conferences will start the week after February break on Monday, 2/22.
    • We really hope everyone can make a video conference this round because there is a lot to talk about!
      • We want to hear from you and your student what worked this semester and what some shared goals might be for the remainder of the year.
      • We also want to check in on the schedule changes coming on March 1st to make sure everyone is set up to have a successful transition.
  • What if I want to meet with each of my student’s teachers?
    • While we recognize that some families might want to have a 1:1 conference with each teacher, the logistics of managing that this year, on top of everything else teachers are taking on, are just not feasible.
    • You can always see the feedback your student is getting from each teacher by asking your student to share work they have completed.
      • Teachers make comments on PearDecks, on Padlet posts, as well as directly on documents--sometimes in oral as well as written form.
      • Going through these with your student can help give you powerful insights into what your student is doing well and where they can grow.
      • Plus--you will enjoy seeing the products of their creativity and thinking!

RAUC Students Participate in ICTS Summit

ICTS Summit
Last Thurs., Jan. 28, a group of RAUC 6th and 7th graders participated in a summit with ICTS staff about new filtering software called Deledao. ICTS tested Deledao on middle school laptops in January, causing many students to discover that sites and videos they loved were suddenly blocked. The ICTS team invited students who were active in advocating against this software to meet with them; Ms. Musher, the RAUC Library Tech teacher, moderated.

The ICTS staff learned how their filtering decisions impact these students, and the students learned about how Deledao uses artificial intelligence in a new way to filter websites. The Deledao trial ended this weekend, so our Chromebooks are again filtered by the Securly software students are used to. Our students' thoughtful advocacy will help ICTS decide whether to buy Deledao for the future, and how filtering should work for computers that go home with students! Thank you for your time, ICTS team and RAUC.

Tech Corner

Check out the Cambridge Public Library's new videos to help young people check out e-books and audiobooks! In addition to Destiny Discover and Sora, which they access through school accounts, RAUC students can now use Libby and Hoopla through the Cambridge Public Library. Call the public library Children's Room if you have questions about these awesome services!

If your Chromebook is broken in any way, take it to the Mobile Help Desk! The Help Desk is open Mon.-Fri. 8AM-4PM, and Sat. 10AM-2PM. They're located at CRLS. Come to the service windows beside the garage door, on Felton St. closest to Broadway. Look for the fluorescent pink signs hanging in the window.

Social/Emotional Well-being--Tip of the Week

"Model the behavior you seek. Whether it's apologizing when you're in the wrong or treating others with respect and kindness, children learn a great deal about relationships from observing the behavior of their parents."
