Celebration of the Lunar New Year

Photo - left: Annika and Zachary celebrate Chinese New Year. They made a great slideshow to teach 211.

Photo - right: Jenny Wang, whose daughter Annabelle is a Junior Kindergartener in Room 283, was our virtual guest a few days ago. Jenny told us about beautiful traditions to celebrate Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival. Jenny shared a book about various festivities such as decorating your house, eating delicious dinner with our family, giving red envelopes with money and watching traditional performances of dragon dances and lion dances. Thank you, Jenny, for your wonderful presentation!

Tobin Student on Pinkalicious & Peterriffic!

My name is Shireen Potia Cross and I took part in a Pinkalicious & Peterrific segment that aired on PBS Kids TV on February 8. Here is how it works. Basically they give you two buckets full of chalk and you go to a friend’s house and draw something on their patio or driveway to show them that you care and then they come out and see that you are their close friend and then they do the same thing to you.

Reminder: White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism

Please join us for a monthly affinity group for White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism. The affinity group for White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism is reading and learning from Me and White Supremacy by Layla Saad. You can pick up a free copy of the book inside the Tobin Library Drop-Off Bin that is outside, just to the left of the main door at the Tobin School (it's a big covered grey tub). The audiobook is always available through OverDrive at the Minuteman Library Network.

Our next session will take place on Wednesday, March 3 from 6:30-8PM. If you would like to attend, please complete this Google Form by March 3 at 10AM. In preparation for the session all participating caregivers should read the Week 1 (pp. 75-123) in Me and White Supremacy

There will be reading to complete before each session, and we strongly encourage families to make a commitment to attend as many sessions as possible. This group will meet virtually once each month on the following upcoming Wednesdays from 6:30-8PM: March 3, April 7, and May 19.

We hope to see you soon!

Please Join! Read Against Racism –
A Book Club for Parents/Guardians

You (and any parents or guardians you know) are invited to join our book club: Read Against Racism. Read Against Racism is intended as a safe space where local parents can embrace difficult conversations and share perspectives on race and equity in Camberville and surrounding areas. Our goal is to build understanding, support a community that values all people, and cultivate shared vision for an equitable future. We know caregivers are busy and many times don't read the entire book. Don't let that hold you back from joining in our discussions-finishing the books isn't required! We meet the first Saturday of every month at 7-9PM. If you'd like to receive the virtual meeting links each month, please email us or join our Google Group. RAR is also on Facebook.

Help Improve the Cambridge Food Resource Guide!
Over the past year, Cambridge in Motion has shifted how they share information about food pantries, meal programs, and other food security resources available in Cambridge with the aim of ensuring that the information available is current and easy to use and share. They're now asking for your input to ensure they're meeting these goals, and to provide you with an opportunity to let them know how they can make this resource more useful for you and those you share it with in the community.
Please complete this brief, 8-question survey to provide feedback on the Cambridge Food Resource Guide >>

Fight the Flu. Get Your Flu Shot!
Now more than ever, it is critically important to get a flu shot (also called seasonal flu vaccine). Flu season begins in the late fall and goes through winter, peaking between the months of December and February, but people can still get the flu as late as May. Preventing the spread of flu will limit the need for flu-related medical appointments and hospitalizations, freeing up resources to help people with COVID-19. You can make an appointment for a flu shot with either your healthcare provider or local pharmacy. Cambridge Health Alliance patients (12 - 22 years old) OR Cambridge Public Schools students (12 - 22 years old) can now receive a flu shot at the Teen Health Center located in Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. Call 617.665.1548 to schedule an appointment.
