National Nutrition Month:
Nutrition Poster Challenge!
CPS Nutrition is looking to collect fun, new, and creative expressions of art to personalize and brighten up the walls of the cafeteria! Our goal is to highlight favorite selections on social media, and enlarge drawings into posters. We're extending this invitation for all Cambridge students (remote, hybrid, in-person) to join in the collection.
Send submissions anytime in March to:
– Cambridge Food Services, 158 Spring St, Cambridge, MA 02141
– Scanned or emailed in color to [email protected]
National Nutrition Month:
Lower Cost Healthy Eating!
Did you know that canned fruits, vegetables, and beans are just as healthy as fresh ones? Did you know that frozen fruits and vegetables are good for you, too? Canned and frozen foods are just as good for our bodies, taste great and last longer so you don’t have to worry about them going bad and wasting money! Buy canned vegetables that are low-sodium or have no added salt and canned fruits in light syrup or water for the healthiest options. Buy frozen fruits with no added sugars. Buy frozen vegetables that aren’t in sauces, which are likely to be high in salt and saturated fats. From your friends at Cambridge in Motion, a program of the Cambridge Public Health Department, in collaboration with CPS Food & Nutrition Services.
– Visit Central Square’s NEW low cost, non-profit grocery store The Daily Table where customers save an average of 30% on groceries. Everything in the store is SNAP eligible. Customers paying with SNAP get an additional 50% off fresh produce through the Double Up Food Bucks Program, up to $10/day.
– Food Resources for Cambridge Residents (pantries, community meals, food box delivery options, school meals, meals on wheels, etc.) in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Amharic, and Mandarin.

Reminder: White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism
Please join us for a monthly affinity group for White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism. The affinity group for White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism is reading and learning from Me and White Supremacy by Layla Saad. You can pick up a free copy of the book inside the Tobin Library Drop-Off Bin that is outside, just to the left of the main door at the Tobin School (it's a big covered grey tub). The audiobook is always available through OverDrive at the Minuteman Library Network.
Our next session will take place on Wednesday, March 3 from 6:30-8PM. If you would like to attend, please complete this Google Form by March 3 at 10AM. In preparation for the session all participating caregivers should read the Week 1 (pp. 75-123) in Me and White Supremacy.
There will be reading to complete before each session, and we strongly encourage families to make a commitment to attend as many sessions as possible. This group will meet virtually once each month on the following upcoming Wednesdays from 6:30-8PM: March 3, April 7, and May 19.
We hope to see you soon!
Read Across America Day - March 2
The NEA (National Educational Association), which is the original sponsor of Read Across America Day, has recast the day as a time to celebrate diversity in books and a love of reading. Please check out this video and go to the NEA website for more ideas. Some more good articles with resources and ideas for wonderful books can be found here and here (this one also has video links of authors talking about diversity in texts).
Please Join! Read Against Racism –
A Book Club for Parents/Guardians
You (and any parents or guardians you know) are invited to join our book club: Read Against Racism. Read Against Racism is intended as a safe space where local parents can embrace difficult conversations and share perspectives on race and equity in Camberville and surrounding areas. Our goal is to build understanding, support a community that values all people, and cultivate shared vision for an equitable future. We know caregivers are busy and many times don't read the entire book. Don't let that hold you back from joining in our discussions-finishing the books isn't required! We meet the first Saturday of every month at 7-9PM. If you'd like to receive the virtual meeting links each month, please email us or join our Google Group. RAR is also on Facebook. Learn more >>
