Equity Update: REAL Team

This month’s video is focusing on our Race and Equity Advisory to Leadership, or REAL Team. The REAL Team is one of the innovations this year in our journey to make our school more culturally responsive and actively anti-racist. We created it in direct response to one of the barriers to equity identified in the Building Equity Bridges project: Educators of Color Not Being Valued, Centered, Supported. You can read the description of the team and the reason for its creation here, or watch the video below.

In-person families COVID-19 Testing forms:

Weekly testing of in-person students is highly encouraged. It is how we identify asymptomatic cases that can help us contain the virus. Please complete the COVID-19 testing form if you haven’t yet. You can fill the form in two different ways:

  1. Online at this link.
  2. Paper
    • Have your student pick up a paper copy at school (ask their teacher or go to the the front office), bring it home, sign and bring back

RAUC-DHSP Family Support Initiative - New offerings for students!

RAUC-DHSP Family Support InitiativeWe're excited to announce some new opportunities that our partners at DHSP are offering to our students in support of our families! We are sharing more about these opportunities to students this week during advisories but also want to make sure families are also aware.

Check out this short video for an overview or see the flyers below for more information:

  • Staff Bios & Overview
  • Programs
    • Morning Motivation (8:40-9AM)
      • We've heard concerns from families about the lack of a gear-up time for students in the morning resulting from advisory being moved to the afternoon, and are especially excited to be able to now offer this opportunity through DHSP for students to check-in and get excited before the school day!
    • The Wave (3:15-3:45PM)
    • Vibe-in: One-on-one support meetings

Spring Clubs Choices & Sign-up

RAUC Spring Clubs
Last Thursday during advisory, all students were able to view the spring club choices and sign up for clubs they were interested in. There are some great choices, which you can view here. Families, if your student hasn’t signed up yet, there is still time; please encourage your students to sign up! The spring cycle of clubs will start on Thursday March 11th.

Tech Corner Womens History MonthTech Corner

During Women's History Month in advisory, we'll be focused on women working in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) fields. Students will be building their STEAM Habits of Mind. (Shout-out to 6th grade social studies teacher Gisel Saillant for creating these advisory lessons!)

If your Chromebook is broken in any way, take it to the Mobile Help Desk! The Help Desk is open Mon.-Fri. NOON-4PM. They're located at CRLS. Come to the service windows beside the garage door, on Felton St. closest to Broadway. Look for the fluorescent pink signs hanging in the window.

Social/Emotional Well-being--Tip of the Week

"With everyday stressors that seem to be coming up all too frequently this year, try and spend time practicing mindful moments with your student. Deep breathing, noticing the things around you, spending time outside, and developing good sleep routines are all easy ways to help you and your child practice mindfulness during difficult times."

National Nutrition Month:
School Breakfast Rocks!

Cambridge in MotionDid you know that 8-12% of all school-aged kids, and as many as 20-30% of teens, skip breakfast? But study after study shows that kids who eat breakfast function better! They do better in school and have better concentration and more energy and are generally in better overall health than those who skip the morning meal. ALL school meals are FREE this year, so there has never been a better time to eat and enjoy school breakfast! Try all the tasty options this March: fruit and yogurt parfaits, whole wheat pancakes, cereal with fresh fruit, and more! From your friends at Cambridge in Motion, a program of the Cambridge Public Health Department, and CPSD Food & Nutrition Services.
