MCAS Updates

Calendar graphicTesting Dates/Times by Grade:
This year, the MCAS (state standardized testing) will be held on the following dates starting at 9AM for each grade:

  • 6th grade
    • Tuesday, May 18 - ELA
    • Wednesday, May 19 - Math
  • 7th grade
    • Thursday, May 20 - ELA
    • Friday, May 21 - Math
  • 8th grade
    • Tuesday, May 25 - ELA
    • Wednesday, May 26 - Math
    • Thursday, May 27 - Science

The Math (all grades) and Science (8th grade only) tests are expected to take 1-1.5 hours and the ELA test (all grades) is expected to take 2-2.5 hours. We will be doing a run through with students tomorrow so students can get familiar with the process.

Families of REMOTE students:

  • Yesterday, the district sent out some important information about how testing will occur for remote students this year along with some remote testing expectations. Here are some key points:
    • Remote students will take MCAS remotely using their laptops at home.
    • A Zoom or Google meet link will be sent to students by their first period teachers on the morning of the test. This teacher will proctor the test.
    • Students will be emailed a username and password to access the test on the morning of the test.
  • In the event that a remote student is not able to test at home due to extenuating circumstances, reach out to Ms. Sanchez.
  • For more information, please check out the district MCAS webpage.
    Other questions? Email Julia Ho.

8th Grade Families: Please mark your calendars for graduation ceremony

Graduation CeremonyJust a reminder that we will be hosting an in-person outdoor graduation ceremony at our school for our 8th graders on Tuesday, June 15th at 1:30pm. Please save the date!

  • The ceremony will consist of the conferring of the diplomas.
  • A recording of the ceremony will be posted online at our website along with speeches.
  • Please note that due to gathering restrictions, the number of guests a student can bring will be limited. Each student will get two (2) tickets.

We also understand that not all students will feel comfortable with coming in-person and we will have other virtual ways to celebrate our graduates.

Equity Update: Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In celebration of Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage month, we have posted some short stories about important figures in AAPI history around our school. During our community connections times, students will also be exploring short films that focus on the rich and diverse experiences of Asian and Pacific islanders living in the United States and abroad.
Check out these slides made by our 6th grade social studies teacher Ms. Saillant here >>
For some resources on AAPI heritage month for caregivers, please check out this WEBSITE, created by our Cambridge Families of Asian Descent group!

Tech Corner

Students, please remember to charge your Chromebook every night. We recommend keeping your laptop in its case, in your backpack, near an outlet. That way you can charge it all night and it'll already be in your backpack in the morning!

If your laptop isn't working, the quickest fix is still to bring it to the Help Desk, Mon-Fri. 12-4, on Felton St. at the high school. We totally understand that can be a hassle for many families, though, so you can also tell your teacher when you get to school and they'll help you email the Help Desk about the problem. We'll lend you a laptop to use in school while we fix the problem, but you may not have one to take home in the meantime.
