Learning Previews

September Learning Previews (click below to view):

What are Learning Previews?

  • We believe that you can partner with us in your child’s education much better when you know ahead of time what your children will be learning in their classes.
  • For this reason, we include Learning Previews in the first newsletter of the month.
  • In the Learning Previews, you can find information from your student’s teachers about...
    • Topics of study for the next month
    • Guiding questions and focused skills
    • Suggestions for conversation starters with students
  • Please note that teachers plan both proactively and reactively, so lessons may change based on student needs or other unexpected events.
    • These previews should be seen as a resource for connecting to the classroom experience and not as an exact road map.
    • Google classroom is always the most up-to-date source for assignments and due dates.
    • NOTE: Because we are still conducting an inventory of school-issued laptops, teachers have not yet begun using Google Classroom as not every student has a laptop. The goal is to set students up on laptops as soon as possible!

Phone policy reminder and Lockers

PhoneThank you for reinforcing the messages we give students at school.

  • Phones are not allowed during the school day. All students have been provided with a locker and a combination lock.
  • Encourage your student to develop the habit of putting their phone (and wallet and any other valuables) in their locker at the start of the school day.
  • They should NOT share their combination with anyone, even their best friend and should not share lockers.
  • Their advisory teacher and the office has a copy of their combination and can help them if they forget it.

IF your child wants to communicate with you for an urgent matter during the day, counsel them to ask their teacher to go to the office. We will support them. IF you need to contact your student, call the office 617.349.4060 and we will find them or get them a message.

Listening Conferences 2021-22

We know that partnering with families in support of their student's learning involves listening to you. This year the district is launching a universal online sign up.

  • Fall Listening Conferences: You can expect...
    • to hear from your student's advisor by Friday, September 24 with an introduction and information on how to sign up
    • Conferences will be scheduled between September 27 and October 15--exact time slots will vary by advisor
  • Semester and End of Year Conferences: You can also expect a conference with your student's advisor around the semester break and at the end of the year.
    • We will share more specific details as the dates approach
  • NOTE: We have moved away from individual conferences with all teachers
    • At the upper school level we do not have a system to support a meaningful conference with each teacher for each family without requiring up to 30 hours of teacher conference time, which is neither sustainable nor good for teaching and learning
    • You can meet your student's teachers at Curriculum Night--please see information below.
    • Once our laptops are inventoried and reassigned, teachers will set up google classrooms and you will be able to see teacher comments on student work--stay tuned for more guidance!

Save the date: Curriculum Nights

  • All curriculum nights will be virtual. The Zoom links to join will be shared closer to the date.
  • GOALS:
    • Connect with other families and hear from teachers in your student’s grade
    • Learn more about what curriculum and instruction will look like this year
    • Discuss concrete ways to support your students.

Please return your CPS laptops & chargers!

LaptopReturning CPS students: if you did not return your school chromebook to the school last year, please bring your school chromebook and charger with you on the first day of school and give it to your advisor. No students will be taking laptops home until we have made sure all computers work and we have enough.

COVID-19 Student Safety & Testing Forms

We are working to begin pool COVID-19 testing for students as soon as possible (as early as this week). These are quick, painless nasal swabs. Our school is safer the more students participate in pool testing.

We are asking all families to please fill out the COVID-19 testing form. You can fill out at the CPS Family Portal or by filling out this PDF and returning it with your student.

If you have any questions or hesitations, please contact our school nurse Bella Abshir or Julia Ho or call the school directly and ask for one of them (617.349.4060).
