Social Emotional Learning & Social Justice at King Open!
Our first theme of the 2021-2022 school year is Identity. For the month of October students will explore their identities while also learning about their classmates and teachers identities. Students will develop positive social identities based on their membership in multiple groups in society. Students will also express pride, confidence and healthy self-esteem without denying the value and dignity of other people. Here is a snapshot of two books were are featuring:
School Council & Community Meeting
School Council & Community Meeting is an opportunity for a collective of parents, teachers, principals, staff and community representatives to think through ways to support and enhance student learning. All JK/5 parents/caregivers are welcome and encouraged to attend!
The first meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 20th from 6-7PM.
School Council & Community Meeting Dates: 10/20, 11/17, 12/15,1/19/, 2/16, 3/16, 4/27 and 5/18.
Principal Chats
Principal Williams hosts monthly chats to offer parents/caregivers a chance to hear about the agenda topics from the previous school council meeting. There is a formal agenda for these meetings, just drop in to pose an agenda related question or to simply listen to the discussion. All sessions are held from 10-11AM. All JK-5 parents/caregivers are welcome and encouraged to attend!
Chats will be held over Zoom. The first meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 21st from 10-11AM. Principal Chats will be held on the 3rd Thursday of each month with the exception of school vacation weeks.
Principal Chat Dates: 10/21, 11/18, 12/16, 1/20, 2/17, 3/17, 4/28 and 5/19.

Friends of King Open (FOKO) is a non-profit association founded by parents to support all King Open children. Our focus is on family outreach, fundraising, community events, and social justice. Your help is needed! Please join us at our monthly meetings.
Healthy Snack of the Week
Tomato & Cucumber Mixup! Chopped tomatoes and cucumbers, white beans, a little lime juice and a pinch of salt. Tip: Any white bean will do - try chickpeas, cannelini beans, navy beans, etc.
