Message from Principal

Good afternoon CSUS Parents and Caregivers,

I am delighted to share this communication with you upon my return from family leave. It was wonderful to spend yesterday reconnecting with staff and meeting our scholars (many of whom I am seeing in person for the very first time!). I am in awe of our staff’s continued collective resiliency at the start of another very new and different year. It's clear from the smiles on (well-masked) faces and the purpose with which scholars move through the building that the adults in our community put in the time, effort, and heart to ensure an orderly opening of school. I am so proud of this team!

I also owe an incredible debt of gratitude to our amazing building leadership, who kept me informed throughout the summer and start of school. While much has changed in the intervening months, Ms. Schwarz, Ms. Robinson, our Main Office staff and our teacher leaders have ensured CSUS maintain its identity as a warm, caring, community committed to academic excellence and focused on equity.

Here’s what’s happening at CSUS this week -

Listening Conferences
At CSUS our goal is to engage families as partners, as you are the experts when it comes to your child(ren). During this time we’d like for you to share information with us about your child, their likes and dislikes, learning style and any other information that can contribute to their academic success. This year’s Listening Conferences are already underway! If you have not yet scheduled a Listening Conference please contact your scholar’s advisor or reach out to Ms. Howard.

Back to School Night
We are looking forward to meeting you in person to build community and share curriculum information this Thursday, October 7th from 6:30-8PM. CSUS is located at 840 Cambridge Street. See you there!

This Book is Antiracist
This year, scholars will be reading and discussing the book “This Book is Anti-Racist” by Tiffany Jewell. Throughout the month of October, all scholars in 6-8 will engage with the book in their ELA class. The book provides a strong foundation for social justice topics and vocabulary that will be used within all classes throughout the year at CSUS.

Pool testing
Weekly COVID testing is available to scholars with caregiver consent. Scholars are pool tested every Thursday. Please note that with pool testing scholars and families will not receive individual test results unless there is a positive case within your scholars’ pool. The form to opt your child into weekly COVID testing is available online via the parent portal as part of the Back to School Forms. We can also send a hard copy home with your scholar; please contact Ms. Howard for paperwork or for more information.

I missed our CSUS family and community, and am eager to get back into the work with you all. I hope to see you this Thursday at Back to School Night, and will share additional opportunities for connecting with caregivers in the coming weeks. I am also always available via email.

It’s great to be back. Go Cobras!
Christen

You can order or request free masks by Wed, Oct 6 here (también en español). You can also make a direct donation to the project. We also have sample masks to give out.
