Kindergarten Goes Apple Picking!
All of our JK/Kindergarten classrooms went apple picking at Smolak Farm in Andover, MA on September 30th - thanks to the Friends of Haggerty! This a favorite field trip, and the perfect way to begin the Kindergarten School year. It's all exciting - the school bus, the tractor ride, the apple trees, the cider donuts, and mostly the time with new friends! Friends of Haggerty, our non-profit organization, funds all of our field trips. This trip cost about $1400 and wouldn't be possible without the financial support of Friends of Haggerty. Thanks to all the caregiver chaperones and teachers for helping make this day such a success!
Music Corner
Welcome to a new school year! I'm Shelley Irvin, the JK-2 music teacher at Haggerty. The students call me Mx. Irvin and I use they/them pronouns. How excited I am to work with your children in person again!
We've started studying a Musician of the Month in JK-2 music classes. This month's musician is the band Buena Vista Social Club from Cuba. Students have been exposed to a number of songs from the album of the same name and you can hear them here on Spotify. Please listen at home with your child and pat a steady beat, identify what instruments you hear, and dance!
Please let me know if you have any questions. You can always reach me via email.
To music!
Shelley

Welcome to the new school year! I will be giving brief video updates about Physical Education this year. Please bear with me as I am not an actor or producer. This first video is a reminder to send your child to school with a water bottle on Phys. Ed. days.

Watch Our Haggerty Students Grow as Readers and Writers this Fall
Just a reminder from all of us to all of you. One of the best ways to support your child to become a stronger reader and a stronger writer is to practice reading and writing as often as possible. All of our Haggerty scholars are encouraged to read and write every day. Please read to and with your child (children) wherever and whenever you can. Students in grades 2-5 are expected to keep track of their nightly reading on reading logs/reading trackers.
Stay tuned for more ELA book recommendations and activities to try at home. All Haggerty JK-5 students have RAZKids accounts that can be accessed from their classlink/launchpad.

Friends of Haggerty
As mentioned above - Friends of Haggerty (FOH) is our non-profit organization that raises money to enrich our school. One activity Friends of Haggerty funds is field trips for each classroom - like apple picking- but there are many other events/efforts. Look for their logo (above) in the Holler to see what they are funding for all of our students.
School picture day is coming up on October 7th, and any purchase you make benefits our school. A portion of the sales is donated back to FoH so that we can fund enrichment, field trips, and more.
Are you curious about FoH and what we do? Come join us (on Zoom) on the first Monday of every month at 7:30PM! You can come just to learn more about what we do, or to find out how you can help make amazing enrichment opportunities happen for Haggerty kids. To get info about how to join the meeting, email Suzanne.
