Tobin Snapshots: Bucket Fillers Project
Ms. Yesenia Stewart introduced the Bucket Fillers project to the students in Children's House 3. She began by reading a book "How Full is Your Bucket?" by Tom Rath and Mary Reckmeyer and then facilitated a discussion about how to treat others with kindness and respect. Ms. Yesenia explained that all students at Tobin would create one school-wide display to reflect us as a community that prides itself in being "bucket-fillers." Each student was given a paper shape of a water droplet to write or draw one thing that would fill their buckets or to fill others' buckets. The project will be displayed on the bulletin board by the main entrance.

Hello G&P, Haggerty, Tobin, and VLUS Families,
Please join a monthly affinity group for VLUS Triad White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism.
The affinity group will read and discuss various texts throughout the year in order to address our own unconscious biases and to take an active role in fighting white supremacy in our schools, communities, and ourselves.
There will be reading to complete before each session, and families are strongly encouraged to make a commitment to attend as many sessions as possible.

MCAS
Last year was an extremely challenging school year and The Tobin Montessori School Staff worked tirelessly to ensure that our cohesive learning model, including multiage classrooms, continued and flourished. We worked to develop our own hybrid model and provided simultaneous instruction to students attending school in person and remotely. The teaching teams and instructional coaches worked collaboratively, utilizing weekly, common planning time to design standards based, data-driven lessons, using the Montessori model. We are proud to communicate the following 2021 MCAS results for the Tobin School. When looking at the percentage of students Meeting/Exceeding Expectations on the 2021 MCAS statewide:
--Grade 3 ranked 3rd in the state for ELA and Math.
--Ranked 12th overall across the state elementary schools in grades 3-8 ELA results.
We are so proud of our students and staff. We thank all of the families and caregivers for your ongoing support!
Tobin Snapshots: Writer's Workshop
The Kindergarten students and Junior Kindergarteners have been doing Writers' Workshop; we follow the approach suggested by Martha Horn and Mary Ellen Giacobbe in the "Talking, Drawing, Writing: Lessons for Our Youngest Writers." We present children with the language of stories through Story Time by inviting them to tell stories of their own experience, to listen to their peers, and by modeling how to tell stories on paper. Because “for young children, drawing is writing”, we began working in the Drawing and Writing books, constantly adding printed words and sentences. The children will be learning more about the craft of writing. We will discuss how to write about what is important and makes sense, how to be specific, and how to learn conventions. We wish success to all the young writers!
