City Updates and Events

Cambridge School Volunteers (CSV) welcomes applications from new volunteers who have one hour a week to give as a tutor, mentor, or classroom volunteer. This nonprofit organization has supplied students (and teachers) with volunteers for 55 years as of this school year. Tutors are needed after school at CRLS and at the upper schools, but there are needs for elementary school as well. If you want to volunteer, start by filling out the application here.

Free Outdoors Program for Cambridge Youth
Wednesdays, Now to Spring 2022 | 3:30-5PM, Danehy Park
Are you looking for a free and engaging program for your child (or a child you know) to participate in? Elevate Youth is a local nonprofit serving 4th & 5th grade students from Cambridge Public Schools, and there are a few openings for our 2021/22 Local Parks Program!

The program offers students the chance to explore nature in our local Cambridge parks, join field trips to try exciting outdoor sports (hiking, rock climbing, skiing, paddling and more) and engage with our immersive health & wellness program. Each family in the program will receive a specially curated box of local produce and dry goods each month, which will be paired with virtual cooking classes and education around where our food comes from, led by local chefs and advocates. Elevate Youth operates within all COVID-19 guidelines. Masks and social distancing will be strictly enforced.

If you are interested, please text “CAMBRIDGE” to 857.995.8050 or email Elevate Youth.

Children Savings Accounts
This program will encourage young children to save early and learn about the importance of having a financially secure future and savings for college, vocational school, or post-secondary education. To help children begin investing for their future, the Mayor's Office, the City of Cambridge, and Cambridge Public Schools have partnered with East Cambridge Savings Bank to open savings accounts for Kindergarten students and deposit $50 on their behalf. This program will help students begin their savings journey early and will provide access to voluntary financial education courses. The goal is that all Kindergarten students will have the opportunity to learn about important financial habits, banking, saving, and spending.
