Children’s House 3 students come to the library every Friday to meet our wonderful school librarian Ms. Jessica.
We have asked Ms. Jessica to explain what students do during the library lessons and she has made the following list:
* Look at books and find one to take back to the classroom for the week.
* Find a variety of types of books for both pleasure and information to support their classroom studies.
* Listen to stories read aloud each week.
* Learn how to care for and use books appropriately
* Discover different styles of writing and illustrating as well as exploring a variety of formats.
* Learn to love books!

VLUS Triad White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism
Please join a monthly affinity group for VLUS Triad White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism.
The affinity group will read and discuss various texts throughout the year in order to address our own unconscious biases and to take an active role in fighting white supremacy in our schools, communities, and ourselves.
There will be reading to complete before each session, and families are strongly encouraged to make a commitment to attend as many sessions as possible.
Session 1: Thursday, November 4th from 6:45-8PM
--Topic: Why do white people need to talk about race?
--Text (Read BEFORE the session): Angela Watson's "10 Things Every White Teacher Should Know When Talking About Race."
--Facilitator: Sarah Foleno, VLUS Literacy Coach

The family engagement activity event hosted by CPS this past weekend at Danehy Park was so enlightening and fun for the children who engaged with David and Ethan from Navigational Games.

Check the Lost & Found
Help us reunite lost items with their owners. You can help by labeling all of your children’s items. This includes water bottles, sweatshirts, jackets, gloves, and anything that can be separated from your child. Please look at the pictures and list below – if you see any clothing items that look familiar, send the family liaison an email with your child’s name and a description of the item, and Zakkiyya will try to get the two back together again.

In the first picture, these four children are working out a social problem at the peace table. The child holding the peace stone, is the only one who speaks, the others must listen and not talk. Then the stone is passed to the next child. This is a Montessori tradition that teaches the students to work out problems without the need for an adult.
The second picture is children in a geometry lesson learning how to identify how many “faces” a geometric solid has.

Two students are working cooperatively on the grammar boxes. They were acting out verbs and then symbolizing the parts of speech for each sentence!
Teacher/Staff Lunch
Friends of Tobin hosted a teacher and staff lunch last Wednesday to say thank you from all Tobin parents to all of the Tobin teachers and staff for their tireless work and dedication, especially in these last few, difficult years.
Thank you to the parents for supporting and volunteering to help Friends of Tobin in all of the community and enrichment work we do. Tobin teachers and staff were so grateful for the lunch!
