VLUS Triad White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism
Please join a monthly affinity group for VLUS Triad White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism.
The affinity group will read and discuss various texts throughout the year in order to address our own unconscious biases and to take an active role in fighting white supremacy in our schools, communities, and ourselves.
There will be reading to complete before each session, and families are strongly encouraged to make a commitment to attend as many sessions as possible.
Session 1: Thursday, November 4th from 6:45-8PM
--Topic: Why do white people need to talk about race?
--Text (Read BEFORE the session): Angela Watson's "10 Things Every White Teacher Should Know When Talking About Race."

CH 3 Community Project: Welcome to Our Classroom!
In Children's House 3, the families and students created a Welcome to Our Classroom poster. Each family wrote the word welcome or other greetings in any language they would like to share. Our beautiful poster comprises words written in Amharic, Arabic, French, Hindu, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Swedish. Come to CH 3 to see our community project!

A fun writing assignment that we do center's around Roald Dahl's the Twits. Mr. and Mrs. Twit are very vile characters, Mr. Twit has a hairy face which he never washes, food is constantly stuck in his beard and he at times when he gets hungry he sticks his tongue out and licks a morsel. Mrs. Twit has gotten uglier as time has gone on and she likes to use a walking stick to walk, hitting dogs/cats and little children along the way.
After listening to a small portion read aloud, the classroom children are encouraged to think about what they might find in the different rooms in the Twit's homes. They can be as gross as they'd like. From there they write a story as if they are trapped in the Twit's house and what happens next. It produces a lot of disgusting, but crazy fun stories!
Check the Lost & Found
Help us reunite lost items with their owners. You can help by labeling all of your children’s items. This includes water bottles, sweatshirts, jackets, gloves, and anything that can be separated from your child. Please look at the pictures and list below – if you see any clothing items that look familiar, send the family liaison an email with your child’s name and a description of the item, and Zakkiyya will try to get the two back together again.

Developing Healthy Sitting Habits in CH 3
Ms. Courtney, the school physical therapist, was our guest in Children's House 3. The students and Ms. Courtney practiced a variety of sitting positions that would help all of us to build core strength and develop a strong posture. Thank you Ms. Courtney for working with us!
