Message from Christen Sohn

Good afternoon CSUS Parents and Caregivers,

I hope you are preparing for a restful and restorative end to 2021.

As we approach the upcoming holiday break, we’d like to provide you with a few updates about CSUS and what you can expect upon our return on January 3rd. Below we’ve shared information regarding our new online homework calendars. For more information, please email your scholar’s grade level team leader. You will also read about COVID updates, our upcoming school play and opportunities to become more engaged with the CSUS community.

What’s happening at CSUS?
There’s a lot going on when we return from break - you can preview our January calendar here.

What’s my scholar working on?
We are also excited to share our 7th and 8th grade Homework Calendars; these sites are visible to scholars, caregivers, and after school and community partners to share what work scholars should be completing each night of the week. Check them out below!

Grade 6 caregivers, watch your inbox for the team’s monthly email containing updates on projects, presentations, and celebrations!

COVID Updates: Quarantine and Travel Protocols, Vaccines and Boosters
The city and district are experiencing increases in positive COVID cases. Updated quarantine and travel protocols are available here.

We encourage families to enroll their scholars in weekly pool testing - our scholars also have access to free weekly COVID testing. Results are confidential. Families who have not yet signed up can find information and consent forms for scholar COVID testing linked here. *Please be advised that caregivers are only contacted regarding test results if there has been a positive confirmed case.

Do you want to be involved at CSUS? Join our School Site Council and/or Equity Team
We are eager for caregivers to join us in conversations about equity, best practices, and present and future successes at CSUS. Joining our School Site Council or our Equity Team are two ways to connect with other stakeholders about issues central to our school and community.

CSUS’ first School Site Council and Equity Team meetings for the year will be a joint meeting held virtually on January 20 from 6:30-7:30PM. If you are interested in joining the CSUS School Site Council or Equity Team, or in learning more about these opportunities please
email me.

Upcoming Holidays: CPS Winter Break
CPS Winter Break is December 24 to January 2. Our last day of school is December 23. Scholars will be dismissed at 2:55. Merry Christmas and Happy Kwanzaa to all celebrating in our CSUS community. We return to school on Monday, January 3, 2022.

CSUS School Play January 13-14
CSUS proudly presents the 2022, first ever live theatrical performance in the 840 Cambridge street Auditorium. The evening will consist of 2 one-act plays, “Chaired,” by Christian Kiley and “Finishing Sentences,” by Scott Giessler. Thursday, January 13th and Friday, January 14th at 7PM - both plays will be performed both evenings. Tickets are available here. All seating will be pre-assigned with minimum 2 empty seats between families or pods, and masks must be worn at all times during, leading up to, and after the performance. Reach out to Ms. Smith with any questions!

Thank you for entrusting us with your scholar’s learning. We understand that you have choices regarding your child’s education, and appreciate you choosing CSUS. Your partnership and trust are a huge part of what makes CSUS spell SUCCESS!

Have a joyful and safe winter break. Go Cobras!
Christen
