Welcome from the Family Liaison
As we are rolling into the winter break, I wanted to share a few bits and pieces from the fall as well provide a few updates for this month. Starting after the break, I will be doing weekly news and resource summaries in an effort to streamline communications. I want to cut down on the number emails that caregivers are getting. If your personal email inboxes look like mine, you get too many emails and are missing valuable information in a sea of ads. I am going to do my best to cut down on some of your e-clutter!
We hope you have a peaceful and restful winter break and hope that the new year brings health and happiness! If you have any questions or concerns or need assistance with resources, please feel free to reach out to me via email or at 617.349.4865.
Nancy Wyse, Family Liaison

New Neighbors
For the next few years Vassal Lane Upper School will be sharing our space while their school is being redone. They are predominantly on their own floor. VLUS does a Day of Service the day before Thanksgiving and they took the opportunity to get to know some of our kids. They were paired up with some our younger students as reading buddies (Alex from 101 is seen here) and some cheered they on our students at the Turkey Trot. These were great community building activities. We are hoping to keep the partnership growing!![VLUS Buddies VLUS Buddies](https://www.cpsd.us/UserFiles/Servers/Server_3042785/Image/newsletters/klo/2021-22/VLUSbuddies.jpg)

Donate Clothing/Textiles for KLO
Donate Clothing/Textiles -- in All Conditions -- and Raise $$ for Kennedy-Longfellow
Did you know? The drop-off bins on Fulkerson Street are not just for good-condition textiles. You can also place clothing, shoes, linens, belts, backpacks, etc. that are worn, torn or missing something in the bin. They just have to be clean, dry, and bagged. Good-condition items will be resold and other items will be repurposed – like for car seat stuffing. Each pound donated generates a few cents for our school. Thank you for keeping textiles out of the trash so they can have a new life!

Turkey Trot
We were back to in-person Turkey Trot this year! The Turkey Trot is a long-standing annual tradition that takes place on the track behind the Kennedy-Longfellow. On the half day before Thanksgiving, our kids take part in a day of exercise. Kindergarten through 2nd grade do a 2 lap fun walk/run and grades 3-5 do competitive races. We encourage families to come and cheer the kids on and this year students from Vassal Lane Upper School joined the cheering squad as well. It was a COLD day but worth bundling up!

COVID19 Information
We were all very relieved elementary aged students became able to get vaccinated for COVID! Has your child gotten vaccinated yet? Nurse Button would like to know. It would be great if you could send her an email letting her know. Still looking for CPSD vaccination policies and resources?

Rules, regulations and expectations around COVID keep changing and this is very confusing. This flowchart from the district is very helpful: flowchart. You can also find information about where to get free testing in Cambridge.
