Tobin Snapshots

The Lower Elementary 3rd years are learning about weather in science.  In these pictures Mizzy is having the students explore the properties of air. Mizzy is lighting a German Candle Carousel. The smoke makes the blades on top turn teaching that "Hot Air Rises." At another workstation students pushed a cup (with a dry tissue inside) down into a bowl of water - the tissue does not get wet because "Air Takes Up Space." And at another station the students were learning that "Hot Air Creates a Vacuum." These experiments are the beginning of helping the students understand why weather happens the way it does. The students love doing experiments!

Tobin Snapshots

Children of Room 7 explored states of matter. During frigid cold days they experimented with water in different cups and made a prediction which cup of water will freeze first. They also learned that liquid takes the shape of the container.

lost and found
Tobin Snapshots

We all lose something from time to time. Fortunately, Ms. Zakkiyya, our school family liaison, collects all the lost items and keeps them until the owners claim their belongings. Recently, Ms. Zakkiyya came to Children's House 3 and brought various lost and found items: mittens, hats, jackets and even snow pants. Many students found their missing mittens, hats and sweatshirts. Thank you, Ms. Zakkiyya, for supporting our young learners!

VLUS Triad White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism

Hello G&P, Haggerty, Tobin, and VLUS Families,

Please join a monthly affinity group for VLUS Triad White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism. The affinity group will read and discuss various texts throughout the year in order to address our own unconscious biases and to take an active role in fighting white supremacy in our schools, communities, and ourselves. There will be reading (or listening) to complete before each session, and families are strongly encouraged to make a commitment to attend as many sessions as possible.

Next Meeting: Thursday, February 3rd, 6:45-8PM
How does whiteness affect our practices, relationships, and expectations in our lives?
