Message from Christen Sohn

Good afternoon CSUS Parents and Caregivers,

What a week!

Last Thursday was our first joint meeting for the CSUS School Site Council and Equity Team. This meeting was an opportunity to review the history and past accomplishments of the CSUS School Site Council, become acquainted with the district expectations for building-based Equity Teams, and plan next steps. The immediate next step for both groups is to recruit additional members! If you are interested in joining the CSUS School Site Council or Equity Team please email me.

Friday’s school play marked the debut theatrical performance on the 840 Cambridge St stage. Chaired and Finishing Sentences were presented Friday, January 21st via Livestream and were a grand success. The combined cast and crew reaches around 50 scholars who all deserve the thunderous applause that came from our audience of over 150 screens and 10 or so members of the live studio audience. Check out the program for more information on scholar and staff involvement, or the Padlet (password CSUSplay2022) to share your thoughts and ask any lingering questions. Thanks to all who supported this process in a time when the arts matter most!

In the coming months, our School Site Council will plan relevant programming for families, including continuing the CSUS Diversity Dialogues series to engage our community in conversations about race and equity. The CSUS Equity Team will launch an Equity Audit with the goal of reviewing and examining CSUS’ existing policies, procedures, and practices to learn more about various aspects of equity at Cambridge Street and identify systemic barriers to equity.

Report Cards
Semester 1 report cards will be available in Aspen on Friday, February 11. See this video with instructions for how to check your scholars’ grades.

Scholar Led Conferences
CSUS will be holding Scholar Led Conferences February 7-18. Scholar Led Conferences are an opportunity for your scholar to showcase their schoolwork from Semester 1 and discuss progress on their educational goals with you. Advisors will be in touch soon to schedule your child’s scholar led conference.

COVID Updates
Here are the most recent district guidelines around COVID quarantine and testing. If your child tests positive outside of school, please contact the CSUS Main Office regarding quarantine, supports for your scholar and family, and to determine your child’s return date.
