Message from Family Liaison

Hello Morse Community!

Happy kind of sorta “warm” Thursday?...spring, is that you? So many exciting things are happening this month along with Black History Month. February 28th marks the beginning of Read Across America week celebration and the Morse school is geared up and ready to read!

Althea GibsonAlthea Gibson (1927-2003)
Long before Venus and Serena Williams, another tall, young Black woman shook up the staid world of tennis with her powerful serve and brilliant play. She was Althea Gibson, and tennis had long been a segregated sport when her skill and strength broke the color barrier in the 1950s. Gibson’s path to tennis stardom was unusual. She grew up in Harlem, on a block where – as luck would have it – New York City police blocked traffic so the neighborhood kids could play sports. There she learned paddle tennis, and took to the sport so quickly she won a citywide tournament at age 12. Recognizing her talent, neighbors raised funds to help pay for tennis lessons, and a career was born..

February Break At-Home Testing Plan: Monday, February 21 - Friday, February 25

Next week, CPS will provide every Morse School staff member and student with a COVID-19 rapid self-test kit and instructions. CPS expects that every staff member and student will use this test on Sunday, February 27, the day before school reopens on Monday, February 28.

  • Wednesday, February 16 - Friday, February 18: We will distribute test kits to students to bring home.
  • Morning of Sunday, February 27: All students should use one of the tests.
  • If the student receives a negative result, they return to school on February 28. CPS will not require proof of a negative test. If the student receives a positive test result, the student will isolate for 5 days at home, in alignment with CPS protocols. Notify your school according to school protocol for reporting absences. If the student does not have any symptoms, they return to school on March 7 and continue wearing masks indoors and outside.

Please see below for instructions on how to administer the at-home tests:
