Message from Christen Sohn
Good afternoon CSUS Parents and Caregivers,
As you may know, last Friday, March 11, students in Massachusetts and across the country walked out of class to protest anti-queer legislation in Florida and Texas. Our CSUS Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) peacefully demonstrated as well, organizing their peers at 840 Cambridge Street. The day before, scholar representatives visited classes to review their purpose and expectations.
During lunch and recess many scholars, teachers and staff walked around the school campus, then gathered in front of the building to share their message with signs and chants. I was so proud of scholars’ respect for and understanding of social activism; scholars conducted themselves appropriately and respectfully. Walking through the halls afterward, an energized 6th grader informed me that, “We are living Powerful Practices 4 and 5!”
As a reminder, CSUS Powerful Practices 4 and 5 are:
These commitments are prominently displayed in our classrooms and are the grounding practices behind teaching and learning at Cambridge Street. Last Friday’s activism was a moment where many scholars were able to make the connection between what they learn and what they live. More information, resources and ways to take action are available here, courtesy of our GSA.

COVID Updates
Last week from 3/9-3/15 we had 0 positive COVID cases.
If you are interested in receiving weekly at-home rapid tests for your scholar, opt-in through the CPS Family Portal or by contacting Ms. Howard. Rapid tests should be administered Friday mornings before school. Positive results should be reported to the Main Office.
CPS is now Mask-Optional
Beginning yesterday, Monday March 14, CPS moved to optional masking in CPS buildings. We are emphasizing for scholars and caregivers that masking is a personal choice, and everyone should do what feels comfortable for themselves and their family. Here are the slides we shared with scholars about the change in masking policy.

Thank You! from the CSUS Parent Caregiver Organization (PCO)
We are happy to report that the annual winter food gift card drive received $3,048 in generous donations, which enabled us to give support to families in the CSUS community over the winter break. You made a difference!
After the last school year in which the PCO only raised $3,700, we are still seeking donations so that we can do teacher appreciation events. If you are able to give, you can give online here or mail/drop off checks to the school for “Cambridge Street Upper School PCO.”
Are you good with numbers? The PCO is seeking a caregiver with a student in 6th grade to become assistant treasurer to help keep our books. Contact Tina if you're interested.
