Character Day
On Friday, April 1, we celebrated Character Day, a celebration of reading across our school. The Haggerty Chorus, led by Mx. Irvin, started our day by singing the song, Read Across America. The performance was awesome!! Many students and teachers were heard singing the song during the day, Thank you Haggerty Chorus! After the chorus presentation, we had a Character Parade, where students and teachers walked on a short parade route in the neighborhood. It was a little wet but a lot of fun.
Throughout the day, guest readers also visited classrooms to read their favorite stories to students. At the end of the day, everyone stopped to read for 15 minutes, a Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.) session. It was an exciting day for our school community. Thank you to all of the caregivers who were able to attend. We hope that you enjoyed seeing all of the creative costumes.

Books Reviews by Fourth Graders (on cereal boxes)
Book Review of Foxtrot by Saif
If you like comics like Big Nate then you're going to LOVE this! The dad who is named Roger likes food and seems kind old. He think he is a lot younger than he really is. He also likes football just like the older brother Peter. Peter is almost exactly like him although he has a much higher metabolism than Roger, and is a bad driver. Peter can sneak out of the house and he also gets bad grades unlike his younger brother Jason. Read on >>
Book Review of Front Desk by Shifa K.
I read the book Front Desk and I wanted to do a book review about the book. The main character is 10 year old Mia Yang. Mia just came from China. She lives in a motel with her mom and dad. Read on >>

Workshop: Understanding Difficult Behavior of Your Child
Wednesday, April 13 | 6:30-7:30PM | Zoom | Register >>
Special needs children are often labeled “oppositional defiant” or “troubled,” but starting from the basic assumption that all children want to “be good,” functional behavior analysis asks the question: “What need is not being met, which causes a child to act out?” Whether you are a parent/caregiver or an educator learn about
- The four basic drivers that motivate difficult behavior
- How to figure out what need a child’s behavior is communicating
- Strategies to help a child get what they need in a socially appropriate way
- When to ask for a functional behavior assessment at school and what it includes
From our speaker Craig Estee, M.Ed, BCBA, LABA, Special Educator, Behavior Analyst for ASD in Cambridge Public Schools, learn a science-based approach for getting to the root cause of difficult behaviors so that you can create the environment that will let your child be their best self.
