We wanted to share the newest addition to the Fayette Street side playground! Our very own outdoor communication board. This low tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tool mirrors other communication tools used by complex communicators. Our hope is that this visual support on the playground will help students to express themselves in a way that works for them. Thank you Tobin admin for purchasing this for us!

Friends of Tobin sponsored an amazing puppet show in the gym for all
the children’s house kids and our ASD classrooms. It was really fun
and amazing.

Zoom

Special needs children are often labeled “oppositional defiant” or “troubled,” but starting from the basic assumption that all children want to “be good,” functional behavior analysis asks the question: “What need is not being met, which causes a child to act out?” Whether you are a parent/caregiver or an educator learn about
• The four basic drivers that motivate difficult behavior
• How to figure out what need a child’s behavior is communicating
• Strategies to help a child get what they need in a socially appropriate way
• When to ask for a functional behavior assessment at school and what it includes
From our speaker Craig Estee, M.Ed, BCBA, LABA, Special Educator, Behavior Analyst for ASD in Cambridge Public Schools, learn a science-based approach for getting to the root cause of difficult behaviors so that you can create the environment that will let your child be their best self.
VLUS Triad White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism
Hello G&P, Haggerty, Tobin, and VLUS Families,
Please join a monthly affinity group for VLUS Triad White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism. The affinity group will read and discuss various texts throughout the year in order to address our own unconscious biases and to take an active role in fighting white supremacy in our schools, communities, and ourselves. There will be reading to complete before each session, and families are strongly encouraged to make a commitment to attend as many sessions as possible.

Tobin Snapshots
Photo on left: Students in room 107 had a special violin performance by one of our own classmates, Clara Greene. She played two wonderful songs that delighted our ears.
Photos on right: Students in room 107 participated in an art therapy project to help us learn about mental health and alleviating stress with Nurse Scott and Ms. Christy. Art therapy is a technique used to help individuals focus on one thing rather than focusing on a lot of things at once. Using paint, students decorated individual masks in small groups with fabulous results.
